power gains from turbo upgrade?

im curious to know how much more power the garrett turbo upgrade makes? and is it a bigger turbo? if so how much bigger than stock? I searched the forum for these answers and can not find them. if someone already knows of a post please let me know. thanks

Are you talking about Vermont Tunings upgraded turbo? Preloader has it installed, check his build thread for his review on it.

as far as i know there is no big turbo setup for the car yet. but there is a modification to the stock turbo mentioned in the post above

Wouldn't one have to get a custom exhaust manifold fabbed up to upgrade to a larger turbo?

I also installed the VVT modifed stock turbo. Went from 190 hp to 206 hp, both according to the OBDII, still haven't done any dyno work. BUT in theory I could have 220 hp, problem is at 206 I hit valve float. Until I get new valves or at least valve springs (probably just the springs will do it) that's the limit of my Sonic's power output.

I imagine the same will be true of full replacement turbo; if the valve springs can't handle the pressure then that's all the good you can get out of the system, right?

Or to put it another way, "you are the weakest link, goodbye."
