Proper Bleeding procedure

I want to go with 5.1 to replace the DOT3 fluid. Without spending a small fortune for a service manual, what is the proper procedure for completely replacing the brake fluid in my '15 RS?

Will Pump, Hold, open bleeder screw do it or....?

EDIT: The more I investigate, I think I'll be going with DOT4. I see Amzoil has a DOT3/4 Synthetic

just dont get any air in the ABS--its hard to get out if not impossible. I built a pressure bleeder from a garden sprayer--works good. look on y-tube. g

Well, per the manual the proper procedure for a flush would be to remove the major components and rinse them and the brake lines with denatured alcohol, then reassemble and do a pressure bleed. I have no idea how compatible the DOT 3 is to the fluid you specified, but if it's not going to majorly gunk up or whatnot, you should be able to get away with draining the reservoir of the 3 and filling it with the new fluid, then doing a manual bleed SEVERAL times to push out the old fluid from the lines. You can go to here (Chevrolet Sonic Repair Manual: Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) - Hydraulic Brakes - Brakes - Chassis) to get the bleed procedure if you need it.

I am not sure if it's a good idea to put anything but DOT 3 in the brakes though. It's what the manual recommends. There is a reason for that.

It's cheap, that's why. With my RS going off warrantee soon I'd rather put in something better as opposed to just the same. Replaced the DOT3 in my Suzuki SV650 with Castrol GT-LMA Synthetic and never looked back.

I see you're thinking DOT4 now. MUCH better choice.

DOT5 is silicone-based fluid, and it does NOT ABSORB WATER--which is why it's not typically used for automobiles. Just FYI.

He said 5.1, which is not the same a 5, and is compatible with regular fluids.

Unnecessary for a street car anyway, unless you have upgraded brakes and track the car, you won't boil the stock fluid. DOT4 is plenty either way.
