R.I.P. 1/4 Mile

Another 1/4 mile closes up in America. Then the government wonders why people street race. Anybody who lives in AZ and remember going to Firebird Raceway it's closed. Don't worry though because Firebird Raceway was the 1st location in the world where the 1st ever DUAL SONIC 1/4 mile race happened on video camera. opcorn:

But for real though, I don't know where people in Maricopa Country are going to legally race now. Firebird Raceway is the only 1/4 mile track that I know of.

I don't remember if you recall that wingman and preloader where the first to run down the 1/4 together at our first track meet.

It's a shame they're closing down so many tracks, I never got the chance to run at Firebird and that sucks!

Sucks to hear about another track closing. We used to have one in Fremont and that's only 20 mins away as opposed to an hour and a half I have to drive to race.

I'd much rather get my car towed 25 miles home than 100 miles.

Yeah I've heard that there are a lot of race tracks closing these days. I've never owned a race track before but maybe they aren't very good investments.

I figured there just weren't many dragstrips around my area. The closest strip is at the southeastern edge of my county; it's about a 25 mile drive. It's fairly busy but it's only 1/8 mile. National Trail Raceway, just east of Columbus, OH, is the closest 1/4 and it's pretty close to 100 miles away.

Dirt oval racing has been very popular in this region for years and there are so many tracks within a reasonable drive I couldn't throw out a guess of the amount. Dragstrips apparently never really caught on. Is this a national phenomenon?
