Reading lamps

Good Morning All,
I have a 2017 Chevy sonic and everytime I open the door the reading lamps come on. I'm able to turn the dome light off in the back, but having a hard time doing the same for the front reading lamps. The light is so bright at night and would prefer to have it off. Is this standard with this type of car, or can it be turned off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I disabled mine by removing one of the wires from the harness, and taping it up real good so it doesn't short. The map lights still work when pressed but it stays off when the door is opened.
