Road Racing Coilovers

I don't want low, or care about cheap, and I don't think Pedders are available...

What are the best performing coilovers for road racing? I'm buying my next mod and would like to know...

ZZP sells the KSports but I haven't confirmed that these are available? Others I know of CX Racing and Megan's...

What you guys think?

Weekend warrior or a track car?



I have b&g springs with the rs struts and shocks. For a one trick pony it does great on the road course. I have not been on it yet with the front sway bar but plan too.

Your car seems to do well in autocross as well. It felt really stable when tossed around. The tires are your huge weak area in your setup for racing. That being said, my tires are not a whole lot of fun on the street so I only use them for the track.

Hoping to have tires before I come to your playground. Although this Sunday will be fun now that I have some more seat time this year and am back in the grove.

I'm pretty sure all the brands are about the same. They all offer the same spring rate and I doubt there's much difference in the shock body itself.

That is why I have not purchased any of them. The supplied spring rates are too soft and the dampers can not control the spring rates I am after.

If you're asking this question, then you don't need coilovers yet. You're probably more the limit than the car at this point.

Also I don't really have an interest in Auto-X it was more just a general question. I guess I figured the setup's would be relatively the same.

A little body roll is good.

Get a set of lowering springs for 200 bucks and go from there. Front and rear sway bars and you will be surprised how well the sonic handles.

Going balls deep on a set of coil overs is not always the answer.

from what I can tell most of the coil overs for us are for looks and not performance. Even with everything I have done I still get more roll than I would like. I suspect this is due to the eibach springs being softer than I need. I can't se a 3kg spring being any stiffer than the eibachs.

What tires are you running? I'd upgrade those before suspension, too.

The rears on most coilovers are totally wrong as MPFab has shown. According to this site:

The stock springs are 124 lb/in (2.21 kg/mm) front and 149 lb/in (2.66 kg/mm) rear. When lowering you're going to want to stiffen the springs up a bit to compensate for less suspension travel. It seems like the rears are barely stiffer than stock on most coilovers.

Eibachs at their stiffest (progressive it looks like) are 4.07 kg/mm in the rear.

That just supports my theory that the Eibach springs are still too soft.

eibachs are too soft, Stock rates are 120lb/" front and 147lb/" rear eibachs are 160lb/" and 171/lb".

I'm going to contact H&R on monday, I won both my auto x championships in a saturn on H&R sport springs with GR-2 struts. I later switched to AMR coilovers with 6k front and 8k rear springs, but without proper setup and corner balance i really didn't think it was any faster then the H&R sports.

I fully expect the H&R sports to be stiffer but i need to make sure, for the saturn the
stock rates are 126 lb/in front, 129 lb/in rear
eibachs are 149 lb/in front, 91-159 lb/in rear
H&R sports are 205 lb/in front, 195 lb/in rear

kinda sucks they have rake, but they did for the saturn too. If the rates are better then eibach then its what ill be getting. I just find it amazing that my saturn had better aftermarket then my sonic does.

he needs a good coilover setup for what we are doing

i'm trying to get the koni guys info from the last event....a set of koni yellows revalved with some custom eibachs would work great! and be about the same price as whats currently available.

likely the cx racing is the same as the d2/k-sports all just painted different colors. and all the spring rates are going to be too soft. so the options there are spend the money on an inferior shock and run again custom springs. but if there is enough demand eibach would likely sell a more performance oriented spring....

i'd like a 550/350 setup with a revalved koni yellow
