So as the title says every time I go to shift or im sitting in neutral the car like just keeps reving its self up, slowly climbing. Along with this every now and then there is a ticking noise (not the injectors) that comes and goes im thinking thats its probably the cam phasers for that but I can not find anything about this. I tried seaching through this forum but I just cant seem to use the right keywords cause I cant find anything metioning this. Just replaced the MAF sensor, canister purge vavle, and the pcv valve (the one built into the valve cover) any ideas?

just drove it on my lunch break and it like does it some times but other times doesnt when its not reving all the way up its staying at the same rpm, so for example: driving 50 mph in 5th gear at roughly 2-3k rpm throw it into neutral and the rpm dont decress like they should. when it is doing it same situation it will keep climping once not in gear. When parked it sits right around 1k and if i tap the gas a very small bit it goes up to just under 2k sits there for 3-5 sec then will drop back down to idle, if i tap it past 2k it just keeps ramping itself up, 3k 4k 5k i always shut it off before it gets to high.
Just thought id share my findings, there is 3 Coolant sensors, one built into the thermostat, one on the bottom of the radiator and one on the right side(when looking under the hood at the motor) of the engine block. The issue was the coolant sensor on the side of the block was bad. Somehow coolant or water or whatever fluid it was got inside the connector and my guess is that it was shorting it out making it read -40 degrees Fahrenheit and im assuming the motor was choking itself out trying to get the temprature back up to a operating level. Thats my best guess because I put a new one in and the problems have gone away.
