Rubber plastic guard

Hey all, just wondered really quick the purpose of the rubber guard under the front bumper, I figure it's maybe for rocks? Let me know, thanks.

Likely fuel economy and making the car look lower while still having some flexibility.

It's an airdam. It's job is to encourage more air to go over the car rather than under. This reduces aerodynamic lift which then reduces aerodynamic drag. It may have some benefit for the cooling system as well.
