Rust Spots On Paint

i have owned my 2012 sonic in summit white since January. the other day while looking the car over i noticed a few small orange colored spots on the paint :sadbanana:
i then attempted to clean them off, unfortunately i have been unable to clean them off, it appears that they are rust spots underneath the clear coat as they are smooth to the touch. should i bring this up to the dealer being as the car is only 6 months old ?

Clay bar should clean that up ...all my white cars had that and a good clay bar session got them all gone.

This. It could be rail dust from getting transported, give it a good wash/clay/polish/wax and dont worry about it.

Another source of this is the brake rotors that shed tiny particles of iron during normal operation. Driving in the rain allows these particles to adhere to the paint surface and unless removed in a timely manner, will etch into the clear coat finish and cause permanent finish damage. Periodic washing and clay bar treatments followed by a quality wax will minimize this phenomenon.

I would at least bring it to the attention of the dealer where you bought it. I am seeing a few complaints about the paint on these cars in the forums. My 2013 has rock chips and the paint looks to be real thin and even thinner clear coat if any... make sure you get something in writing that you were there and they looked into it for you in case you have issues later on.. keep an eye on posts about paint issues. I am really hoping we do not have paint issues with these cars that we have to fight gm over. otherwise the cars are great.. enjoying mine, had it three days now..

these spots are on the roof above like a few inches from the edge of the windshield, it looks almost like moisture under the paint i will try and get a picture on lunch.

My Sonic is Summit White and I noticed this as well when Spring came. I'm going to assume you live in an area that gets snow so in the winter you have all those big rigs and dump trucks, rusted cars, and other kind of contaminants that get stuck on your paint. I was worried as well but all it needs is a good clay bar at it and it'll be gone.

I remember when I first saw it I thought rust already, than I said to myself "rust on my bumper but its plastic". That's when I used the clay bar and looked like new all again......except for the paints chips you find. Lol

I too have a Summit White HB and have noticed small rust spots on the lift gate. I'll have to invest in a clay bar.

I had a ton of orange spots on my wife's white sonic. Clay bar did the trick and got all of them off.
