Seat rails

I cannot stand the stock seats, and I'm soon to opt for racing seats or a better seat in general. I can find universal seats, bride sparco recaro Etc, but does anyone know if universal rails will fit? Or if there will be problems with spacing? And if so has anyone gotten sonic seat brackets?

I have never made that mod but have on a couple of occasions investigated, and generally rails match the seat chosen. The Sparco seats may be the easiest to use given that the Sonic does not seem wide enough for some choices and have the advantage of being widely available.

The Recaro seats are both more (much more) expensive, better by all accounts, and not as easily available. Here is a link: Seat Source > Recaro Seats

My buddy and I, see picture below, are currently researching the process to install seats. He's got some racing seats in his Jeep, Corbeau, with 5-point harnesses and they are insanely comfortable and very supportive.

On the topic of seat rails, does anyone think/know if it is possible to put a driver side seat adjusters/rails on the passanger seat? mostly the passanger seat sits high, atleast in comparrison to where I have my seat set.

I have installed my sparco seat into my xB by taking the OEM seat apart and attaching the frame to the sparco seat rails. I haven't looked closely at the Sonic seats to know if that's possible.

I suggest you contact 425 Motorsports. They have the Planted brand of seat frames. They already produce brackets for the Fiesta and other b-spec cars (and many many others). They might be willing to put something together for you.

@ eric are they the A4 seats do you know? i was actually looking into them, but im not sure how well i would fit being veryy skinny. 6'4 155 lbs soaking wet so being wide really wont be a problem. Just didnt know if the stock rails would work or if i would have to opt for aftermarket. How are the 5 point harnesses? I would like to more than likely do 4 point over 5

I've been very seriously contemplating this. I swear I'm going to rip my arm rest off when cornering, I could really use the support. But man are the recaros expensive, i'd love the speed seat but 700 bucks puts it outside of what I'm willing to shell out.

Anyone know of other manufacters that provide a similar seat for cheaper while not being poor quality. I would search but googles a pain on my phone and if soneone has expierence with something else the they can attest to if its decent quality, comfortable, etc. Thanks

I'm trying to find that out too, if it's just a part and not a seat we could probably get it from Japan/the UK.

Yes, and they are fantastically comfy. 5 point harnesses were a bitch to install, but worth it. We do some beast offroading, so the protection is worth it.

honda/acura, VW/Audi, GM, Ford, toyota...all use ricaro for some performance factory seats. i can't imagine they would cost an extreme amount to purchase...if whoever is buying wants full adjustment of the seat...and having comfort being involved. i've sat in some sport seats that killed my back in just a 20 min ride to get beer...and i've been in a few civic Si/Acura RSX cars that i could drive across country in. i spend about 2 hours a day in my seat, so i'm looking for comfort personally

and yes you can hack the seat apart and use the factory seat with a little welding. with knowledge, money, time, and proper tools you can make anything you want. skimp on any of those and quality goes down of course.

I have been planning to do this since i saw the Tjinn Sonic and fell in love with how it looked. I have seen some good looking seats made by Stätus which i believe are what is in that sonic and i think they were priced at least lower than Recaros and you can get them customized to your liking with color combo's, stitching, and patterns. One dilemma with putting in racing seats in our Sonic's... What happens to the airbag in the side of the seat? Will a warning light always be on because that would drive me nuts. I also feel like my armrest might be removed one day while using it to keep my, but planted in the center of the seat. I have thought about trying out the CG lock in the mean time till I can afford nice racing seats and put heating elements in them because i like a toasty bum in winter. I might have to order one and do a review. Has anybody used one of these before??

The right resistor jumped between the pins that go to an airbag will fool the computer and not set off the warning light.

Use an ohmmeter to find the airbags resistance, then delete the bag and wire in the resistor.

Will it be worse than a crash with functioning air bags? Yes! Will it be worse than before they had seat mounted airbags? Probably not. It's a risk you have to decide if its worth it to go with seats that do not have them. I would think going with a better fitting seat that has the equipment would be the best option.

It won't effect the other airbags. Many modders do this trick to add race seats or even non-airbag steering wheels.
