Trifecta w/ upgraded GM intake

I was just wondering if the two upgrades would get along. According to the GM parts catalog the upgraded intake (23169952) comes with a new engine calibration.

If someone already had a Trifecta tune, would they have to just remove it (full flash to stock), have the parts / calibration installed, then re-flash (force full again), datalog, and update the tune?

Would this even be worth it assuming no other upgrade are going to be made anytime soon? The idea is to keep the car (besides Trifecta) to have only GM approved upgrades to avoid any issues with the dealer when going in for maintenance, etc.

I assume Trifecta would take your new GM tune and keep the parts that are adjusted for the intake and then modify fuel/boost/timing/etc like they do with their normal tune.

Although I would think I would at least have to datalog the GM calibration that comes with the intake, right?

That way if I had to flash back to stock with EzFlash in the future, it would load the correct GM calibration rather than one for a Sonic without the intake. Otherwise I can't see how I would get back to the calibration they put on with the intake if the dealer ever had to service something major.

You'll have to ask one of the tune vendors or guys who has a tune if it does a "save" of your specific stock tune when you flash, or if it's just a generic stock tune that it has saved to flash back to stock. Because since your factory tune is unique, you will want to make sure you retain that as you have stated.

I know that you are supposed to be able to read the stock ECU with the Trifecta EzFlash. But when I tried to save the file off of my RS, I was unsuccessful. It is labeled as "Read Controllers" in EzFlash menus

I called my dealer today and while they could not find it in their local system they said it was on some online system they had. The only problem is, while they could confirm it exists, they could not order one, or quote me a price because the information they could get on it was very limited.

It's in the 2014 GM Performance Catalog, but yeah, apparently they're not selling them yet.

I wouldn't suggest this. Just take the factory flash and have trifecta make you a new one using it. It's going to be better than just ECP.

If you buy this through the dealer, apparently they'll flash a tune for it. They don't list any extra power. Possibly there's more pull through upper RPM's or something changes in the low end torque band. Doubt it's a significant improvement with their tune. GM gives a +10hp/+15tq rating on their exhaust system tune, which they won't load unless you buy an upgraded clutch. Major benefit over BNR - it's factory and GM will support if something breaks esp. under warranty. Will likely last a billion more miles.

If GM performance has it (and they do - can order it online) and my dealer won't bend over backwards to get it, I'd find a new dealer.

The issue I see with this is that GM locks the pcm to keep others from writing on the same file. So there would be no way to reinstall your tune.. Your dealer shouldn't give you any issues for having a aftermarket air intake that's not from GM more then likely the GM kit is made by K&N
