Turbo Bypass Block off plate

These just showed up and look fantastic!

For those that are not familier with the turbo setup on the 1.4L, it has an internal blow off valve (technically a bypass valve). So if you want to run a better external bypass valve, you have to block off the stock bypass valve. So we designed a piece that bolts into place perfectly with a double seal on the bottom to seal off the place left empty when removing the stock bypass valve. It is CNC made from 6061 aluminum and finished with a black hard anodize. We also ship new stainless steel hardware to make installation easier.

For those going with an external blow off valve, this is going to be a must have item, it is up and available for sale now on our website!

Hey, this is going to sound like a dumb question but i just order this bypass block off plate will this alone give the "psshh" sound when i shift or is this just just the block off and i need to buy a BOV.. im sorry, im new to this stuff

You're gonna need the BOV.

That would be a very bad idea and serve no purpose. If you remove the stock BPV and block it off without installing a BOV, there will be no relief valve to operate when the throttle closes. Google compressor surge.

I suppose there's D) I really don't understand what's going on at all and none of the above are true.

And E) the flying spaghetti monster take you all, no worries, be happy

The way I initially understood it, he had purchased a block off plate (which is intended to be used in conjuction with an aftermarket BOV further downstream) to remove the stock BPV (not a forge BPV) and wanted to remove the stock BPV and replace it with the block off plate.

Swordsmith, if I read you correctly, you have replaced the stock BPV with the aftermarket forge BPV. That is how the product was intended to be used, so I don't think either A,B, or C above apply.

The OP here was Dave @DDMWorks, hardly an ignorant fellow. He's built this block and is recommending it, if I understand correctly, as necessary in order to install an external bypass valve. I -think- that's what the Forge BPV is. Perhaps the Forge model included a block off plate?

Now subsequent to that, in this thread, Greek Monkey posted a question wondering whether the blockoff plate would create the noise he wants (no, it isn't a noise maker per se) or whether he can get a BOV without it (isn't that what I've done, more or less, I mean, BPV instead of BOV, but no plate either way) and so forth. The answer to his question seems to be you need both the plate and the valve... that agrees with your reading but doesn't clear up the question for me.

I'm embarassed to be posting any of this since it makes it plain I ordered and installed a part without any clear idea of what it is supposed to do, no idea if it is in fact doing it, no idea if there's something missing in my install, just monkey see monkey do. What can I say, I was caught up in the frenzy and saw another thing to spend money on!

Finally, can someone go over with me again why any sort of valve like this is a "good idea" tm, other than simply installing a noise maker. Which, admittedly, seems to be what GM is looking for, but wasn't what I thought I was getting into.

My bad. In my haste I erroneously referred to the OP. I forgot what thread I was in and intended to direct such comments to Grease_Monkey.

There are basically 4 options here:

1) leave the stock internal BPV in place.




2) replace it with a forge hybrid atmospheric BPV

3) replace it with a forge recirculating BPV

or
4) replace it with a DDM bypass block off plate

and use it in conjunction with an external bov

that is plumbed in further down the line (probably somewhere in the charge pipe between intercooler and throttle body).





the advantage to installing any one of these options (other than noise) is increased durability, especially with higher boost pressures where the stock BPV might be prone to leakage.

Swordsmith, Dave developed the block off plate for me so I could run my HKS SSQV4. The forge BOV/BPV replace the stock one in its original position, so the block off plate isn't needed.

Obviously I also am not 100% on the subject, but think I understand mostly.
You say "hybrid" so it actually recirculates some of the air but blows off most of it?
