Whatever happened with this turbo upgrade?!

Is there potential for a lot more hp buy doing this turbo upgrade? Then having trifecta tune for it as opposed to vtuner?

Either Trifecta or VTuner if for a manual trans and Trifecta if upgrading an auto trans. Both tuners know what they are doing, Vince at Trifecta all things GM and Brian at VTuners oriented toward turbo fours, particularly those used in the SAAB family.

Why not trifecta for manual trans? And so will the Super 14GT Turbo Upgrade*allow the stock upgraded turbo to make more hp than we are topped out at using the stock non upgraded turbo?? What is the point of the turbo upgrade on their site? Theres no hp readings or anything that I see? But if it will allow us to push more power out of our little turbos I may have to give it a go.

As you can see, they have not posted any updates about this upgrade in quite some time. There are no dyno results that I am aware of. Surely the upgrade will increase horsepower to some extent, the question is how much. Certainly not as much as swapping to a bigger turbo all together. Upgraded though it may be, it is still a teeny-tiny turbo.

You might want to try contacting them directly to ask some questions about it. Another route would be checking over at cruzetalk, since vtuner seems to get a lot more attention over there.

Exactly, I want to know if its even worth it.. I will try contacting them. Vtuner has some stuff I didnt know was offered for the sonic.. On a random side note, im about to buy ttr engine and trans mount. How much of a difference do they make? Are they a must have?

So heres what I was told so far from Brian at Vtuner:

The Super 14GT turbo upgrade will increase the amount of air your turbo can supply up to ~ 170 g/sec of flow. *Your maximum power is limited by how much air your turbo can move at a given pressure ratio. *On the stock intake/exhaust I was seeing 170 g/sec at 28 psi boost at ~ 6500 rpm with this turbo, compared to ~ 140 g/sec on the stock turbo. *Do you know what your current airflow and boost is at 6000 - 6500 rpm?

There will be real world results posted in the semi near future about this upgrade. opcorn:

The upgrade consist of a new *Larger* compressor wheel and re machined compressor housing to fit the new wheel.

The result is more airflow and is probably more efficient at the higher pressure/density ratios; I.e. cooler charge temps at the higher psi's where the stock unit is likely getting very inefficient.

"Either Trifecta or VTuner if for a manual trans" is my way of saying both offer good products for turbocharged Sonics equipped with a manual transmission and that Trifecta historically and currently has tuning choices for Sonics equipped with an automatic transmission where VTuners (to my knowledge) does not.

Im debating it, if a replacement turbo kit wasnt in the near future id buy it asap..

What's the latest on the upgraded turbo or the increase air flow or the cooler, denser intake air at higher rpms?
It's been quite a while, 3 years, since any news?..
I'm still hopeful for at least 153hp, like the Chevy Cruze gets from the 1.4T!

BNR offers one, MPfab had his dialed in a while ago but has yet to offer a kit for sale (I think?)

Tune+ bolt ons and you'll be happy. Maybe upgrade after you're dialed in and more options could be available by then

....if it has tits or tires it can be upgraded
