I have a Sonic RS with the stock 17" wheels. I believe they are 6" wide, maybe 6.5"?
I don't really want to go with a bigger wheel, I want to stick with the 17" ones. But I would like to go wider for more traction since I am adding a good 40 HP or more. I live in MN, so my plan is to go pure summer wheels and tires, then have the stock wheels get some snow / ice tires on them for winter.
I see 17" wheels on sites like Tire Rack that are 7.5" wide. Tire Rack still shows the same stock tire width as the tire option (205). If I go to 7.5" wheels, I can't find out how wide of a tire I can go. If I go 225 x 40 I can keep the same diameter, but will they fit is what I want to know. If so, how wide could I go on 7.5" wheels on a Sonic RS?
If anyone knows the answer or has a good site that explains how to figure this out, let me know. Thanks!
