Well for me I like to exceed the standards Plus it there is not much of a cost difference then what's the big deal?
and I agree with you … after the "freebies" I'll be switching to Amsoil Signature series

that's nice … except that the recommended from the manual is a blend
I get Mobile1 oil changes for $32 at my dealer and that is good enough for me.
It costs me $34 to do it my self.
How is the dealer charging you less with labor? I think all of the dealers here want $50-60 for mobil 1 changes.
unusualyou guys get choices? I was told I have to have it changed at the dealer due to warranty I'm not sure what they run there..
Doesn't make much business sense. But they guaranteed 50% off oil changed for life. Obviously they count on me getting raped for their other services
It's more marketing then anything else.Hey gang!
Mobil just recently came out with a new oil called, "Mobil 1 Annual Protection."
This is a 'once-a-year' oil or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first).

I'm tempted to get this however, keeping the same oil in your engine for so long aren't there contaminants (gas, water, etc.), that get by your oil filter? Keeping oil in your engine for so long without a change seems to be pushing the limits.
I'm open to opinions... opcorn:

the base dexos RP is fine for strict 5k changes, it tends to thin down pretty quick. What would one consider great oil? Amsoil? Royal purple? Hydrotex?
