both me and my girlfriend got a ride to the hospital in a ambulance.
here's the story;
we were going up Parleys canyon (I-80 east of SLC,UT) and lovin the ride. it was 3pm'ish and on a friday on sept 23rd, 2011. the canyon was fairly packed with people heading out of town. there are 3 lanes going up and 3 lanes coming down. the steepest point is 8% grade.
now we were cutting traffic at the bottom of the canyon heading to my cabin for the weekend. we had to stay in the middle and outside lane because they were doing heavy consrtruction on the inside lane.
i'd just got my bike totally restored ($8,500 later) and it had better handling and better power than ever before.
my girl kept telling me we should go faster, so..... we did.
about a mile from the top we were rapidly approaching (100mph) 2 semi's w/53' trailers.
the one in the center lane was going about 45mph and the one in the outside was going about 45mph. the front end of the semi in the center lane was about 60' from the tail of the semi trailer in the outside lane.
so i was going to cut up threw there. only one problem, the semi in the outside lane went to downshift, missed his gear and slowed to approx. 5mph. I hit the brakes and got slowed to around 70mph before crashing into the rear end of the trailer.
we were not wearing helmets and didn't sustain and head injuries.
i needed 2 staples in my arm, a new tooth installed in my mouth and lots of clean-up done on all my road rash. my girl bruised her tail bone and broke her finger tip.
it takes me about 25min to coax myself out of bed in the morning but other than that i'm fine and so is she.
