'06 WRX STi wheels on a Sonic

This thread is for all those that have had a hard time finding wheels in the elusive 5 X 105 bolt pattern. I gave up and decided to try something a little different.

I posted the pics already in a couple threads, but those who could be considering using adapters for a wider selection of wheels might find this install interesting.

Title says it all. I just purchased a set of media-blasted STi BBS wheels and a full set of snow tires to fit on the 17X8 Subaru stock wheels and I'm going to put them on the Sonic.

How, you ask? The STi bolt pattern for '05 and up STis is 5X114.3mm and the Sonic sports wheels with a 5X105mm pattern.

I ordered a set of hub adapters just last night from Motorsport Technologies to mate the hubs with these new wheels.

Decided to create a thread here because I don't have any pics yet, so it's still up in the air at this point if things will work out the way I want, and because we don't really have a lot going on in this section.

Since the wheels are bare, I plan to primer/paint them soon. I'm thinking white wheels on my black Sonic hatch.

Thoughts?
Anyone use adapters or spacers before?

Everything pretty much came together (except I'm not running snow tires).

Thanks guys. Motorsport Technologies made a great adapter. I'll be shooting them an email soon to let them know they can list the Chevy Cruze unit for the Sonic as well.

Did you get the vibration issue sorted out? I see they sell hub centric adapters, but they cost $100 more.

One of my employees just put new rims on his Eclipse, and forgot to get centering rings. He said they shook a little until he put the rings on.

I don't understand why the cone seat of the lug nuts isn't enough.

Looks great! Didnt notice if you mentioned having an alignment done. If not you need to have it done because upgrading to those wheels may throw you out of whack a little

Had to get one or two of the wheels rebalanced, I think that was causing a little vibration, might have to wear in the tires a little, too; they were used on an sti for a while and some friends that dabble in a lot of used tires suggested that tires from one vehicle to another completely different one might need a little time to 'wear in' to the second car's setup.

Ill keep this updated if anything changes but so far so good.

(Thinking aout getting an alignment too after a few hundred miles, couldn't hurt.)

Always use a hub-centric solution on cars designed for hub-centric wheels. You will likely not get rid of that vibration without a design that centers the adapter / wheel combo on the hub. This is especially true on adapters, because any error in alignment is multiplied as the distance from the hub face and wheel back is increased.

They cost about 165. They work great the problem I was having was simply the manner the car was aligned.

Looking again, the adapers I had made are indeed hub centric.

IIRC=if I remember correctly.

It might; the overall offset after factoring for adapters is what matters. So I guess it depends on what size adapters you go with.
