105°c ? (221°f?)

Sorry for the tittle, i couldn't think of any other one.

So it appears that the thermostat for the 1.6 (maybe 1.8) Chevy Sonic opens up at 105°C (221°F) and my mechanical instinct says that it's not normal.

My question is : is there any sort of Aftermarket thermostat i can get that opens up at lower temp? i can mod it as i have replaced my old one and i have that laying around (There is a rubber seal in the center shaft that went too thick and causes a thermostat error so can be fixed)

Anything can be helpful

The thermostat is calibrated to operate at this temperature so the engine operates more efficiently, and to control emissions. Because coolant is used, and it is pressurized, it can operate at a temperature above the boiling point of plain water. If you were to alter the thermostat to operate at a lower temperature, the computer would turn on the check engine light, and set a code P0128 (coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature) - this in turn would disable the AC compressor, and the remote start function. It is best to leave the thermostat regulating temperature as designed.

Certain engines run hot
Certain run cold
Not all of them are meant to run at the same temperature

More and more now a days
For performance and especially economy
They are running hotter as we advance in our ability to create good engines and engineer them with better materials

This isn't a Windsor block Ford where 230 is a death sentence
