Hey guys
I haven't really been active lately, but I felt the need to post this just in case anybody makes the same mistake I made. So today I was on my way to the movies to meet up with my family right, and I of course was running late. Of course I think "no problem, GG EZ." So I'm traveling down the interstate banging gears as you do when you're a moron like me. When suddenly I try to shift to 6th and oh no what's that. It didn't go in. Why didn't it go in? So obviously I'm like "oh the shifter clip must have popped off again, no problem I'll just pull off the road and push it back in, and I can still make it in time to tell my sister happy birthday before the movie." Boy was I wrong. I spent like five minutes trying to push the clips back in before I realized that obviously this wasn't working and this wasn't the problem. So I go under the hood with everything of course nice and toasty, and I start moving the shifter arm around to see if I can find the linkage out of place. So I move things around and I realize that they are indeed in place. Next of course my mind goes to the worst place, "oh boy, I finally managed to pop the transmission." So I move the shifter arm around to see if it'll go into a gear. Here is where I got really worried because I moved it around up and down and tried to rotate it back and forth to see if it would pop into a gear. It felt like it did, but then the entire shifter was literally stuck in the up position and with absolutely no movement transferring into the transmission but the arm swinging freely about. I was scared for a moment until I remembered when the clips popped out and I was stuck in a gear the shifter felt similarly. I realize I'm stuck in a gear and I try to wiggle the shifter around. I noticed that the nut was actually moving slightly when the shifter would rotate back and forth. I kept moving it and realized that it was actually wiggling at the base. It was at this point that I realized that the shifter was actually loose. I called for a tool box and I tightened it up, and it came loose while stress testing it on the side of the road, I repeated the tightening process several times loosening and tightening as needed to get the thing to work. I finally made it home. Basically guys what I'm saying is if your car shakes like a Chihuahua then make sure you use some thread locker on anything you don't want to lose. :sadbanana:
TLDR: If you have aftermarket mounts and or your car vibrates a lot make sure you apply thread locker to everything you install or work on to prevent it from coming loose.
