Airbag Light

I put this here since I couldn't really find anywhere for it. I guess this is as close as I can get.

Anyway, for the past month or so, I've noticed that my airbag light will sometimes be on when I'm driving. It's not always on though. If it is on, it will stay on until the car stops, it doesn't turn off and on while driving.

Any ideas? Should I let a dealer look at it?

And yes, I know taking a picture while doing 63 isn't the safest idea, but I wanted to snap one before I forgot again.

I had the same problem with mine. They found a loose connection, no prolems since.

Hi Inm,

If the airbag readiness light stays on after the vehicle is started or
comes on while driving, it means the airbag system might not be
working properly. The airbags in the vehicle might not inflate in a
crash, or they could even inflate without a crash.

To be on the safe side, I would suggest taking it into the dealership to check.

You didnt unplug anything with the airbag system right? If you do then cycle the key we find the airbag light comes on sometimes. Only way to fix it is remove the negative battery terminal for like 10 min then re attach. That usually does fixes it.

I haven't unplugged anything, but I may try this anyway.

The dealer told me there was a recall concerning the airbag system, and they had fixed the issues, and that it should take care of the problem.

I left from the dealer directly into a 4 hour trip down to the beach. Within 30 minutes of leaving the dealer, the airbag light was back on. I decided to take my chances and let it stay like that for another week.

I have now returned from the beach, and the Sonic will be going into a local body shop to get her dinosaur bite fixed. (More Info)

She'll be there for a week and a half. Out of sight, out of mind. Once she's out of there, I guess it's back to the dealer I go, to get the airbag light checked out.

Well, since taking my seats out, those connections under the seats would be the first place I would look. They're easy to plug and unplug... which means they're probably also easy to come loose, and the seats being unplugged WILL cause the airbag light to come on.

In fact, the one under my driver's seat wasn't quite in all the way whenever I originally pulled my seats out. It is now though.

I would be interested in knowing also. I have had my Sonic (12) into the dealer about 15 times and the light still has a way of coming on until I take it in. Started just outside of 1 year of ownership. I also have issues with the passenger airbag system staying offline even when there is someone with me. GM has not done anything to help with the issue. If you and others are having issues we could go all "class action" on GM to make them get this resolved.
