Biggest tire possible on a ltz 17" 6.5wide rim?

I can not remember the OEM tire size for the 17" rim, but 215/50R should fit but it may be what is already there. Tires may vary even with the same specs, so one brand may do the job and a different brand may not.
This is not as easy to answer as the questioner may think. I would suggest going to your local tire retailer and listening to their suggestions.

225/50R will fit but will need a flash to keep the odometer accurate, which you can get at your dealer. If you buy the tires from the dealer, the flash should be in the price, otherwise plan on $50.

I, personally, go to Discount Tires (aka America's Tires) in part because the manager of the local store is willing to have his workers try different wheel and tire combinations until we come up with what I want and what will work.
They have access to most every wheel, including Tire Rack wheels.
If you are pushing the limits, and your last post indicates you are, find a local tire dealer who is willing to work with you. If you insist on using mail order and get something that does not fit, I will laugh out loud. I know that is not nice of me, but there it is. I feel no obligation to be nice.
Fitting the tallest and the widest is an art. There is a reason Tire Rack took the least controversial way out. If they send you something that does not work, clearly someone has to pay the piper.

I always buy my tires locally I was hopping some one had gone through the trouble to find out what would fit so I didn't have to or at least give me a good direction to go in but like you said it won't take much for my local tire dealer to figure it out for me if he wants to win my business.

Excellent. There are many sizes that will fit on the OEM rim, particularly if you are willing to have the bcm flashed so the odometer etc. is not off.
I like to use 10-10.com when searching, in part because it will list specific tires that will go with each tire size you pick.

In my opinion, 225/60R 17 will go on the OEM wheel, add two inches in height and one in width, has quite a few choices, and will definitely fill the wheel well. Your tire seller will have a better idea of which tires will work best.
Let us know if you decide to go this route.
