coolant leak somewhere

iv been have had coolant leaking under my car on and off for a few months. always on the drivers side. Drove car up an ramps and its dripping off of the bottom of the transmission. took it to dealer and they said if was from a the water pump, I had a hard time believing that since the water pump is on the complete other side of the engine but since it was under warranty I told them to go ahead and change it.

well its been less than a week and the leak it back, I noticed it when I left for work today. it doesn't always leak when I park it and it is dripping off of the bottom of transmission. I have spent quite some time looking to top of transmission and I don't see anything on top. all hoses on look fine, I am stumped. anyone else seen or had this issue? pictures are below.

Bbyers77, look at this post and check at the top of the trans case and the water outlet and inspect all the hosec onnections

Might be the water outlet failing.

thanks for the link to the other post, i have inspected that area 100 times now. I will check it again when i get home from work. I always thought it had to be leaking somewhere on top of the transmission and than running down to the bottom but its always dry up there.

it always leaks on the ground after the engine cools off and sets awhile. But not every time i park it. maybe i should pressure test it when the engine is cold.

this is the first chevy iv had in the past 15 years, dont know if id buy another chevy or not. i bought this one new in 12 and so its had the transmission replaced, water pump been changed 2 times now, valve cover been changed once, intake boot cracked, leaking oil seal at cam positioning sensor, all that was replaced under warrenty. now the onstar just quit working. dont care much about the onstar but its aggravating.

just to compare, I bought a nissan altima in 2010 and it has over 210,000 miles on it and it still runs like a top. never once has it been to the shop, all iv ever done is kept the fluids changed and tires on it.

Here's what you do. Check the passengers side of the engine. A bit above the bottom of the downpipe. That's where the water pump is. Check to see if it's dripping down. I know that's how mine is leaking. Out of one of the bolts and the bottom of my transmission is covered in coolant, some on the downpipe too.

I will check but my water pump was just changed Monday. this is how it looked before they changed it and now 5 days later it looks the same.

im going to pressurize my cooling system later tonight when engine is cold. Dealer only did it while it was hot.

Wait. I have to apologize. I think I'm wrong. Where is the water pump? On the right side of the engine right? Not under the turbo? It appears that I am remembering this all wrong and I have no idea what is slowly leaking though I suspect it's coolant. Because it looks slightly orange. Dark orange

water pump is on passenger's side of the engine. turbo is in the front of engine.

I plan on pressurizing the piss out of it when I get home. either ill find the leak or ill create another one.

Yeah! I was remembering it all wrong. The leak I thought was under the turbo coming from a bolt. I am wrong however. I fully inspected it today and the leak is coming from that part where Tormach said. However mine isn't leaking from the actual thing but from the big hose that goes from the radiator to it. It's a very minimal amount which is why it's taken me this long to figure it out. My transmission is stained where it meets the engine and I followed it all the way up to that big hose connecting the radiator to the "thing." I don't know what it's called.

Yes, that entire area has wayyyy to many coolant hoses and connections... it can be any number of things the water outlet alone has 4 hoses on it

Pretty much the entire part where the transmission meets the engine is covered in burnt coolant on my car

Right, from this thread...above the transmission is this big plastic water outlet part with 4 hoses ..bolted to the side of the engine.
I'm a bit depressed..there are so many coolant hoses on this engine...even if one replaces the major coolant hoses that they can see I see a lot tiny ones going here and there..Won't they all fail at some point.

found the leak!!!!

Bottom hose on the water outlet. Took me 5 mins to find it. Dealer's been looking for at least 2 months!

the big fatzilla hose is the hose right above the one i found leaking.

Thats great bbyers77, now just to fix it. While your at it, if your fixing, inspect the water outlet fitting end for cracks or degradation.

im pretty sure the whole plastic assembly needs replaced. its under powertrain warranty so im taking to my dealer monday morning. If they say sorry ill buy one the same place you did...amazon.

i was saying the hose that is leaking is the bottom hose on the water outlet

For comparison I've had so many leaks on my car its getting ridiculous, high mileage but man...

Water inlet hose at ~135,xxx
Water outlet hose at ~141,xxx
Replaced water pump and at ~143,xxx (under recall)
Heater core outlet at ~152,500

and I've only had the car a little over a year :/
