ECM voltage issue

Since getting my ultragauge a couple months back, I have had an odd and intermittent problem. There's an alarm on the thing that goes off for ECM voltage overage. Every couple days, it goes off. Its set up to do so at a 15 volt threshold... and it gets numbers like 15.02, 15.19, 15.08. No CEL, and too much voltage doesn't really strike me as a problem, so I generally suspend the alarm and forget about it. I forget so well I keep forgetting to bring it up here!

At any rate, I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff, I thought the car ran on 12 volts, so I'm surprised to find a 15+ volt -anything-. One idea that I had was that perhaps a brand new battery runs high on voltage and then dies off part way till it approaches 12. But a couple months of ownership, nearly 12K miles, I'd think it would have cooled it, at least down low enough not to set this alarm off.

UG, and this problem, precedes all mods done, because while I had the red cable, it took a few days for BNR to actually send me the email with the flash to do my first tune.

Dunno that it is a problem, but I thought it might be something to discuss.

I had this issue when I got my ug. I ended up just turning off the alarm

first that is Battery voltage not ecm.. it is reading charging voltage so the baterry doesn not control this voltage... my does it also time to time but it seems only when it first starts up so i figure it is like a rapid charge for a few minutes then the regulator lowers it down.... i see 15.4 Volts from time to time... not sure if this is spec or not might ask dealer next time i am in

I set my alarm to 15.4 and haven't had it happen again. it's only just long enough to trip the alarm. no big deal.

On a different note, I had to shut off the fuel level warning when I was on the track with my car. One of the bends was enough to set it off. Drove me insane that whole session.

Can you guys tell me your display settings for your UG? I want set the brightness for the lowest setting for night and the highest for daytime, but what setting do you have for the light sensitivity? I'm not even sure the light sensor is working...

Battery voltage changes depending on if the vehicle is on or off. Standy by or "off" voltage should be around 12.4 volts. When the engine is running is should be anywhere from 13.8 to 14.4 for a normal battery. Depending on throttle position it could be higher. Going into too high of a voltage can cause fuses to start blowing, not to mention fry some mechanical parts. My buddy charged his batter up to 19 volts by accident and fried his radiator fan..lol
