I'm pleased with its look and function. The 3M adhesive backed material appears to bond well to the carpet; it hasn't lifted or moved at all, and provides a slip resistant easy to clean surface for parking your left foot. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want a dirty worn out spot on their carpet where there is no floor mat for protection. It works for me!

Think it will pose any sort of problem with cleaning the area? If you ever want to remove it, will it damage the carpet?

I don't intend to remove the material except to replace it if ever deteriorates. Cleaning isn't difficult; a soft brush, water, and a cloth. I also believe that it could be pulled off at any time without damage to the carpet; possibly pulling some fibers from the carpet.

For a more easily removable option, dealers usually have a clear plastic sheeting that they use to protect carpet after detailing. You might be able to buy it and just cover that area. Like this: 3M Carpet Protection Tape in Stock - ULINE

Thanks for this information. My Sonic is coming in about two weeks and I'm preparing to get stuff like this and scotchguard

Got mine installed. I'm really happy with the results! Thank you for the idea Papasonic! Cut it even with the floor because it overhangs about 3 inches or so. It looks like you did too, but I also cut around the little plastic clip/retainer thing for the edge of the carpet so it wouldn't be in the way of that.
It's not every day I pull out a carpet, but when I do, I prefer not to have to curse at a piece of 3M adhesive-backed rubber.

I just noticed this post. I'll elaborate with what's usually under the carpet of a dead pedal, from what I've seen while removing carpet:
Triangular-shaped styrofoam block
Wiring harnesses
Sunroof drain (if applicable)
So, no, it's not a very good idea to drill through it. It may be that the Sonic is actually metal underneath with no wiring or anything, but I would doubt it. The styrofoam wouldn't be good for holding screws, and if you go all the way through it, you risk damaging wires/drain lines.

Oh by the way, since there's no dead pedal all you have to do is remove your left shoe & go barefoot on the carpet area, BUT only if you have an automatic tranny like myself lmao!

I like how the dead pedal is just as useful in an auto trans Sonic as it is in the manual 6 speed. I recently put the tread material in the wifes Sonic too, after she saw mine and said: "Why did you put that in your car, and not in mine?"

Ok guys, after the unfortunate incident where I left my windows down and my carpet got soaked, the 3M adhesive on that rubber piece is still holding strong. I don't think we have to worry about it going anywhere.
I'm glad I cut out around that clip that holds the carpet down now, too.
