Happy to see GM employees buy the Sonic make me feel good.....I have always been a GM guy mostly a Chevy guy but had other names as well....And as a Vietnam vet I say buy American the job you save maybe your own.....
Yep, I'm buying almost as local as you can get: American car from an American company, made in Michigan, sold in Lansing from a dealer less than 2 blocks from my house. So I get to keep in the US, keep it in my state, heck even keeping it in my own neighborhood!

Co-op at Pontiac Powertrain here, have one on order. Very recent convert from Ford as well.

Well nice start guy to a better day for GM and the country. Till your fellow worker that we the public are liking what's coming out of GM these days. Keep up the good work and will gladly support you.
I have to admitt being assembled in United States was a huge reason I picked the Sonic over other Subcompacts. Not sure how much buying this car really helps the American economy, but I know it makes me feel better.

I spent a few weeks in the design building doing a lighting ballast and lamp change. Please tell the designers to stop make such ugly and excessivly large wheels in the clay modeling studios.
Spent a few months in the VEC in 2010. Neat place.
Please tell security that if they are going to go through the trouble of putting that stupid Pic Patch over the camera on my phone when i come in, check it when i leave.

The VEC has some really neat pictures hanging on the walls. A lot of parts always laying around too.
I spent a few months in the VEC doing a furniture change for the jobs that came to the Tech Center. After that was when they shipped me out to Orion Assembly. Building the tool cells and seeing the preproduction cars go through helped with my decision to buy a Sonic.

The sheet metal is done here. A few pieces come in from other countries, but are then assembled into the different sub assemblies and the final vehicle in Orion Assembly. it is not uncommon at all for a lot of parts to be from around the world, especially when its a global market vehicle.

The US/Canadian content in our cars is like 45%. Yes, that's less than half American, but at least the assembly is done here, that's something no other subcompact can claim. The largest source of parts is Korea where the rest of the world's (except China & South America) Sonics/Aveos/Barinas come from. I'm just glad they could find it worthwhile to assemble it in the USA.

I toured the Orion Assembly plant in the summer before regular production began, and I am pretty sure the vehicles I saw on the line in various stages of assembly were Chevrolet Sonics.
During the tour, it was said that as more parts became sourced in the US the Sonic would ultimately be 70% North American content.
Incidentally, the plant was markedly cleaner and brighter than any plant I worked, in which was back in the sixties when I was a college student.
