how to nls (no-lift-shift)

so the basics are
1. hit the gas 100%
2. hold the gas down 100%
3. while gas is down depress clutch pedal 100%
4. shift
5. release clutch pedal
6. smile


simple enough

now here comes the odd part. in my cobalt i have a wot box and it holds the rpms exactly at the point when i depressed the clutch pedal. 6752 rpms or 7196 8435 does not matter it just holds it there.
in the sonic is seems to run the rpms all the way up to 6500 no matter when i press the clutch in.

is this normal. can someone grab a video of their tach that shows what is happening?

Mine was the same way, that's why i ported the intake runners so i can rev limit no lift shift

it's normal to do that. the point if NLS is to do it near redline, like during a race.

The tune doesn't matter.

It needs other parts; most street cars that can do it, are set up from the factory to do so. You can also add it aftermarket, called a WOT box.

Your clutch and transmission are going to the be most at risk for damage.

Mine only picks up a hundred or so RPMs between shifts. Say I shift at 6k RPM the rpms might go up to 6200 before I'm in the next gear.

The only time I hit the rev limiter is if I fudge a shift or NLS above 6300 RPM.

It's also really smooth when done right/fast, I had someone in the car ask me if I shifted because they hardly felt anything.

Also I thought I heard on WOT-tuning that NLS is only active for .5 secs, after which time it goes back to normal spark timeing and fueling.

So I just nls 2-3 and tcs was on. Got a flashing cel... Not good, it was cel one missfire Is it common?

The tune does matter. Yes you can NLS without the tune but it's pointless because you wont keep boost between the shifts. The Trifecta tune enables a NLS without closing the throttle body and it cuts fuel and timing during the shift so you keep boost right where it was before you touched the clutch. Without the tune as soon as you press in the clutch you will hear the BPV release that sweet boost and you start all over again.

Its also rough as sh!t NLS without the tune. Huge shock load on the drivetrain. If you're stock DO NOT NLS.

Cndctrdj- that is not normal, I would check the plug gaps and see if they are good. When I had some plug/connection problems I was getting some funky drivability problems NLS'ing

the tuned NLS doesn't dump boost. the stock one does.

If you "no lift shift" on the stock tune, you're really just power shifting it for no reason.

On the stock tune the car hits the pre-programmed redline and the throttle body closes, which means the BOV/BPV opens and you dump boost.

On trifecta tune the car hits the redline and the throttle body remains open, keeping the turbo fully spooled.

No lift shift is the name GM have this behavior on the Cobalt SS Turbocharged, and we do the same thing here so we figured the name was appropriate.

Checked plugs,
Saying they were off is an understatement. One was .022, the rest were .018-.017

Now they are all the same at .028
