The 1.8 pulls strong for a 4 cyl , It a good motor right out of the box . A turbo will be nice , but that would defeat the purpose of why I bought the car .

That's absolutely true for people like me and you, but with a turbo available it creates a market segment for the car that didn't previously exist. For an enthusiast a $2,000 investment to get something that will have a lot of pickup is nominal, especialy if you buy in cheap with a base model.
So onto the next question.
A 1.4 turbo gets a 6T40 or 45 while the 1.8 gets a 6T30. I believe there is also something similar in regards to the manual transmissions sold with them.
If even GM didn't feel the transmission supplied with a 1.8 could handle the slight increase of torque from a 1.4 turbo then how can you expect it to handle the power from a 1.8 turbo?
Sounds like building a 1.8 turbo is a very, very expensive project to me.
I thought about that as well. Guess we'll soon find out!
It could be only the Cruze is a reasonable candidate for the 1.8 turbo.
Well heres one thing I really don't get.
GM has a 270HP 2.0 turbo. If someone wants a fast Sonic why not drop one of them in it? The work has already been done.
why spend 10 grand on an engine swap?
considering what some members are currently spending on mods, I think 10k (if it could be done for that figure) sounds pretty reasonable to have, far and away, the fastest sonic out there. once you factor in the costs of a turbo kit, a new transmission for when you blow up the stocker, and the eventual rebuild of the stock engine from the crazy power mods, things begin to balance out. and it could be one hell of a sleeper. just sayin'. ;-)
If im going to spend $10,000 for an engine I will just build a Quad 4 up to about 500WHP and call it good. It wont be in a Sonic either.
To do the Verano swap will involve more than just a motor swap. Probably require quite a bit of extra parts fab and I doubt it will runn off of Sonic wiring and computer.
That’s what Matt has done u should go watch all the videos cause as I said I watched 2 days ago and there are videos of it running it made boost all that he’s tuned and all it’s got upgraded and at machine shopStill waiting to see a 1.8L turbo here in the U.S. run and stay running.
If you searched here. . . a turbo 1.8L has been talked about and tossed about for many years in quite a few threads. Would love to see one done right.
Lastly, putting one together with a different beefed up block, pistons, crank, etc isn't exactly a 1.8L stock to turbo build then.
And even 300HP to 400HP. . . let alone 500HP (r-r-right) . . . . it wouldn't even be near stock anymore sine the transmission, suspension and other drive train components would be changed out.

Dude why are you such a hater on anyone wanting to see a 1.8 turbo? Would you feel better if I just put a trans in my 1.4 automatic it’s already turbo and then I can be cool like all you 1.4 guys with a whole 10 ftlb of torque more that’s sad it doesn’t even make anymore power and yes there is more aftermarket options but the 1.8 stuff is out there and dimensions don’t lie. Just look up the fucking manifold gasket by part number. If they’re the same I’d say he safe saying it will bolt on. Like the 1.6 turbo exhaust manifold just happens to be the same exhaust manifold gasket as the 1.8. And yes his did run it had some oil blow back in the intake because of the catch can being non existent. Along with that u don’t post the new videos lol u wanna show and B nothing but negative go somewhere elsePost a link to the exact Youtube video you keep talking about.
The ONLY video of showing hem driving a Cruise was with the first $113 turbo in July 2020. That only lasted a few days and it died. . It puked oil all inside the intake. You need to look at the dates of what is posted.
THIS - - - did not last and over a year ago - - > It BLEW up . . Quit posting HYPE . . .
It ain't running. .. . Ove a year later, LOTS of $$$$ spent. . . and I doubt it will run for long. Several others years ago did similar. .. . then you never hear or see from them again.
If you think the 1.6L turbo part would work and STAY working. . who us and stick around for over a year to verify it still is running and reliable. A person could take a 125CC go kart engine and turbo it. That doesn't mean it would last very long and be reliable.
Here is the last video I see him posting.. No running engine . . just talking about parts, family stuff and why it isn't done yet.
AND. . that 1.8L EURO kit you keep posting is has not been shown to run. . . by anyone. . for long if at all . The pistons, crank, and other 1.8L components can not handle a turbo for long if at all.
