Maybe I'm missing something here, but why would you want to relocate the oil filter on a 1.4?
I have three Sonics, two with 1.8 and one with 1.4. There is a large turbo hose/tube that you need to flex slightly out of the way to change the oil filter (24 mm 1/2 drive deep socket reaches past the tube onto the cap perfectly) on the 1.4.
I drain the oil for 5-10 minutes first and I've NEVER spilled a drop of used oil anywhere on the 1.4. The 1.8's always drop some used oil on the exhaust manifold/heat shield.
I imagine the real benefit is for those that have upgraded the intercooler with the hard charge pipes. I would think you would have to detach it from the throttle body every time. For those of us still with soft hose, its not a big deal but there is the benefit of the extra oil capacity.

I don't see why a spin-on filter is better.
I tried making a post on BNR’s fb page early last Dec. but they never approved it to be posted. I have a feeling they scrapped it...
