Semi-automatic/Manual Mode

I just bought a 2013 Sonic with 6 speed auto, and I really like the Manual mode for having more control over when the car upshifts. Just wondering if anyone here has tips for using this mode effectively. What RPM should I be upshifting at? What is the earliest/lowest RPM that it will allow you to upshift?

This is a year later, so I think you figured it out. Mine upshifts smoothest at atleast 3,500 rpm, and down shifts smoothest no later than 1,500 rpm. Wait much longer to downshift and it will downshift for you. Beyond that, not much to it.
