Taking the mystery out of tuning the 1.4

I have a BNR tune and everything appears to be set up properly but I can't view any of the tables, data logs etc. Are these files locked by the tuner or am I missing something here? I use EFILive and the autocal and I've tried everything or I think everything, to be able to view the tune.

In order for your tuner to send you a file to load with your AutoCal, it must be locked to your tuner's FlashScan V2 serial number. It is up to the individual tuner to set the properties on the tune file as to whether it can be opened+modified, opened only, or neither. Additionally it is the tuner's decision whether to lock the controller upon flashing the file.

I don't know what BNR's policies are on these, that's their decision to make.

Data logs you can view, transfer them to your desktop and use the V7.5 Scan tool or the V8 Scan tool.

Look up HPTuners or EFILive and start reading the forums. That's how I got started, it takes a lot of time and dedication to understand what's happening with the engines and how the engine controllers adjust fuel, spark, cam timing, turbos, throttle, and so forth.

To be able to tune a Sonic, you need a $150-200 wideband O2 sensor plus a (minimum) $499 tuning suite (software+hardware). That lets you read and write the ECM and TCM if automatic. You need to spend lots of time learning the concepts around how the controller works and how the tables interact with one another. It is time consuming, but a rewarding pursuit.

Another option is to look at a tune from a reputable vendor such as Bad News Racing. Jerry knows these engines and controllers extremely well.

This thread has great info. and now I fixed the thermostat issue without having to make some stupid harness. Just wanted to make my daughters car a bit more reliable.

I just tuned my son's 2019 premiere. I was a bit more conservative with power. I maxed torque to 175 ft/lbs at 100% and did raise demand to 160 ft/lbs at 80% throttle over 2500 rpms. Gave a little bit of ramp up before WOT so it wasn't like flipping a switch to max torque. Very smooth and drive able. I added about 10 ft/lbs to the rest of the map to give a smidge more torque for daily driving.
