The Cargo Capacity For The Sonic Hatchback

In the 2012 Chevy Sonic Hatchback the Cargo Capacity with the seats up is 19 cubic feet and with the rear seats down it is 30.7 cubic feet.

In the upcoming 2013 Chevy Sonic Hatchback the Cargo Capacity with the seats up is still the same 19 cubic feet. But with the rear seats down it is 47.7 cubic feet.

My question is how did the cargo capacity go up with the rear seats down from 30.7 cubic feet in 2012 to 47.7 cubic feet in 2013?

The reason why I am asking this is because in the Chevy Sonic Guide Book I got at my local Chevy dealership is the 2012 Chevy Sonic and it says 30.7 cubic feet with the rear seats down and in 2013 it is going to 47.7 cubic feet with the rear seats down.

I think the stats you got are wrong for the 2013. Where did you see that figure. As far as I know nothing is changing for the 2013 year except certain optional features becoming standard.

Maybe they are counting the space under the false floor (spare tire area).

That could be it, but I don't see it adding that much space. perhaps though.

Are all spare tires deleted in favor of the air pump?

Don't remember the specific date, but all Sonics after a specific date come with an inflator kit.

The RPO for the compact spare tire is changed from ZAA to ZAO and the 2013 Ordering Guide shows this RPO as standard for all HB lines.

I did not look at the Sedan but we know some 2012 Sedans do not have the compact spare tire.

Both 2012 and 2013 HB Sonics show 47.7 cu ft of cargo space.

My 2012 sedan did not come with the compact spare tire, kind of wish it did and someday I will probably remedy the problem.

My 2012 hatch made in March came with a spare. I thought they all did but the lowest level LS.

I believe the only Sonic models delivered w/o the compact spare were sedans. I know the 2012 Sonic sales brochure specified LT sedans would not have the compact spare, in two different places in the brochure, although in the beginning of production all had it.

Wouldn't the area where my spare tire is be available with the seats up? OK, we know it is. Since that is the case, why increases the listed available space only with he seats down?

Just checked the Online Ordering Guide, and it says both Sonic 2012 & 2013 Sonic HB have 47.7 cubic feet with the seats down.
