Today my engine check light came on. I pulled the code with my reader and it was 0597 with the following description: "Open thermostat/heater circuit?". Anybody have an idea what this means? Bad temperature sending unit connection? These cars do not have a coolant temperature gauge, only an idiot light, but there definitely is a temperature sending unit.
What is the worst case here and what is the expected cost of worst case repair? I am sure none of this will be covered by the powertrain warranty. The car is a 2013 Sonic LT Sedan with the 1.8 liter engine and 5 speed manual transmission. How do I go about testing this circuit? I cannot even get an aftermarket service manual for this car. Would Cruze service manual be good for this? They use the same engine in base Cruze and I assume the thermostat and sending unit circuits are the same.
