Tire size question

I found some Drag DR-9 16x7 wheels online. 16.55 lbs each! So I'm thinking about replacing my stock 17's with these. For tires, I was thinking 225/50-16. These work out to almost identical height. Just wondering if the width will be OK. I think they should be fine, any thoughts? This setup should provide lighter weight AND a better ride.

I bought 16x7.5 wheels and got 225/50R16, and that should give me some meat. I'd hazard to guess 225 will not look good on a 7" wheel.

The Sonic's that come with 16" wheels have 205/55R16 tires. That size would look proper on a 7" wide wheel. On my wife's Vibe I put 205/55R16 on 16x7.5 wheels.

Look at Eric talking tires. I'm so proud.

I find that size tire will get you 1/8" less overall O.D. Not a huge deviation.

Stock 17" is 205 on a 6.5" wheel. 225 on a 7" wheel will give you about 3.5mm more side meat than what the 17's had.

It will hardly be noticeable, but if that's a problem, go 215/50, but you'll lose another 7/16ths" of O.D.

Depends on the offset...... if it is 44mm or more, yes, it will be fine.

Even 42mm would work, unless you are major lowered.

There should be no problem running with 225/50 on 16s on a 7" rim.

I had 225s on my lowered LT and moved them to my RS and had no clearance issues.

I called Discount Tire and they suggested maybe caliper clearance? They also said they would pay return shipping if they didn't fit. Sure seemed like they would fit to me.

215/55 would look ridiculous.

Caliper clearance should be fine. I thought Labor all ready did these. I got lucky with mine. Caliper has almost NO clearance. Close call was stressful.

Quite a few 225/50/16 tires are listed for use on rim width ranges from 6-8". I run 225/50/16 on my Cavalier and other than a slight rub under agressive hard cornering, the car is also lowered, I have no issues. If i had aftermarket wheels with a different offsetit might not be an issue at all.

Those should definitely work. I had to change to different rims once because the ones I did not have enough clearance for the calipers, and the people at Discount had no problem doing the change, in fact the rims that did fit cost more and they sold them to me for the price of my original choice.

I bumped into the owner of Drag wheels at auto Creation today. I told him 5x105 is building in demand. He told me that as of now they only have 2 styles in 105. The DR-33s and I think he said DR-31 IIRC.

I like the DR-31s. Said he would give me a special deal when I'm ready.

Discount tire gave me a hell of a deal on a set of wheels for my integra. I bought some that were out of stock they gave me a set of 16's for the price of the much cheaper 15's I originally bought.
