vvti/interference engine

hey guys so my teacher brought this up and ive been thinking about it, im a huge Honda hater and I hate vtec but I know Honda has a interference engine which means that the valve travel farther into the cylinder(allowing more air flow) and if the timing belt breaks can hit the pistons and mess things up bad has anyone heard anything about our engine being an interference engine because I was planning on adjusting my valves to open more but if that is the case ill cancel

Pretty sure ours are interference fit. The majority of pent-roof multi-valved engines are, which is to basically say most DOHC engines.

Do you have the 1.8 engine? And do you want to increase valve lift or just the timing events? The latter has been done by a good number of members on the forum for under $500 and never opening the hood.

Latter as in the 2nd option I mentioned of adjusting valve timing. The "former" would have referred to changing valve lift in my previous post.

I suppose I left ya with a bit of a cliffhanger. I was referring to a tune. A number of people on here are running a Trifecta tune. Vince the man behind Tri tweaks a whole host of parameters to milk out more power.

Check out BNR's section for info on the tune and other mods.

If you would go through the trouble of getting a intake cam made ( would have to find someone to weld up the cams and regrind it because no one can get the cam blanks yet, atleast who I talked to) get a exhaust made too.

The right way to do it( on a untested or unexplored set up) is to get the head flow tested to see how big of a lift you can go on the cam before you become counter productive.

I am rather curious as to how it works. I always had the sense from the Chevy Prizm VVT that it was fighting the driver a bit. The automatic '02 Chevy Prizm VVT was so insipid (my previous '95 Geo Prizm auto had been quite fun) that I bought the manual instead, which fortunately one dealer near me happened to have in stock and under cash back. At least that way I could quickly downshift if the VVT got overbearing with me. With the Sonic Turbo the throttle response is rather hesitant even if the overall experience is far more pleasant than a Prizm VVT with auto transmission, and I'm curious if that hesitation is VVT-related.
