I went to the dealership today to get a new badge put on my car because the insert fell out of the old one.
So they put the new badge on and tell me I'm good to go. Before I leave I check their work and the area around the new badge is all scratched up. The car was covered in road salt but I figured the tech had enough sense to run it through the washer they have(I was wrong). Well it looked like he just took a rag and rubbed the salt into the clear coat. Road salt=sandpaper. And the chemical they used to remove the old badge fogged/stained the clear coat in a 8x4 inch area around it.
So I go in and say to the service writer "hold on there is a problem" and I tell him the problem. Right away they go on the defense. "No way he could have caused scratching/staining.'"
So I bring him to the car and show him and he tries to tell me its just residue from the cleaner. I rub it with my thumb and of course it doesn't come off and I say its obvious the clear coat has been damaged.
So they agree and have their body man buff the area. So I'm thinking great, they'll pop the badge off, buff it, put the badge on again and it should look like factory again. Instead they leave the badge on, do some half assed buff job, and call it good. Here's a picture of how it looks now. Am I being to critical or should I go back and demand better?
(Double click the pics to blow them up you can see the damage better.)
