zzp or ddm

I am finally getting g rid of my injen intake and going with either the ddm or zzp. I can't really decide. Both are great intakes. One better than the other? I know this has been a debate but I'm looking to order by morning

DDM in my opinion.

I've got the DDM and it looks real nice in that engine bay. I know it doesn't help but it seems you really can't go wrong either way you settle with. DDM shipped fast and had awesome customer service/support. Also they did a nice clean powder coat job, including custom colors if that matters. They just got me as a returning customer due to being very professional and very good quality. Hopefully this helps make a final decision

I chose DDM as well. Like you said, it's a hard decision and you have to just go with what you like better in this instance. I liked that the DDM came with a heat shield for the same price as the ZZP which is what made my mind up.

I like them equally the same just wondered if raking I the zzp insert will make more power than the ddm. I like ddm as I have some parts from them

You'll have to buy both and dyno them side by side to see if it's worth it and I honestly do not think that until we get a flanged manifold for a bigger turbo that there is a real need for a overside intake tube. I can't remember if Dave at DDM dyno'd the ZZP or not, I'm pretty sure it was just the DDM, Injen and Stock though.

We have dyno tested them all back to back to back, we are happy with the results between all of the intakes and that we still produce the most power of any intakes out there. I would love to have someone here to verify the testing though, it is really nice to have an independent observer when we do stuff like that.

Yes and no. No tune required but will lose all the power without the tune.

No tune required but there will be no lasting HP gains without a tune.

The ECM will take measures to maintain stock torque output; You make mods to make more HP, the ECM lowers boost or uses other measures to keep same HP(on the 1.4t).

Same for the ZZP w/ insert, K&N, and Injen intakes (although the Injen doesn't make any more power over the stock airbox SAB even after a tune). Some cheaper intakes will not run right without a tune, occasionaly they wont run right with a tune because of poor design.

why would you want an intake if youre not going to be tuned. The only thing youll get out of it is sound. $200+ is a nice chunk of cash for some sound

The oem intake is a cold air intake and obviously does not require a tune.

However, they will not make more HP without a tune. I'll refer you to my post before yours for a watered down explanation of why.



Technically no one sells a Cold Air Intake (CAI) for the sonic as none of them actually draw in exclusively cool air except for the stock unit. The DDM and K&N are the closest with their heat shield, followed by the ZZP and the injen takes a horrendously distant fourth. They're actually "short ram intakes", but in reality it's potato patato

If you get an intake outside of the ones mentioned you May need a tune, or it may never run right....ever.
cheap intakes are hit or miss and you run at your own risk (I'm thinking of the WeaponR that gave some people issues)

I thought you did need a tune for fhe ZZP intake due to the larger pipe size otherwise your car wouldnt run correctly. Thats why ddm kept the part of their intake the same diameter as the stock intake so your car would still run fine without a tune. Although any gains from the intake would be quickly set back down without a tune.

Edit: I forgot about that removable piece in the ZZP intake, my bad!
