This was probably asked before but what kind of control do you have over the fogs if done the factory way? Either way is fine with me I can do either. I just want control over the fogs. I want them on without the headlights. I turn the drls off right when the engine starts. I may just end up running a switch off the battery.
Do you think i could run each fog off of the parking light above it? That way i can do 1 click for the parking lights and fogs then then will be on for the headlights as well. I know i can but just looking for opinions. Idk maybe i should just do the switch.
Update: went to install my fogs, painted the chrome trim black. Went to put it on and noticed they sent me 2 left side trims. I was pretty irked. Sending me a new one tomorrow.
Got them all put in. It was actually really easy. Didnt remove the bumper. Just the wheels, inner fender lining and the lower plate below the engine. Took about 45 minutes.
That's good to know that you do not have to pull the bumper. I'm sure it's easier but you don't have to worry about damaging paint or snapping clips. I might have to get a set in the mail in Febraury so they are waiting on me when I get home.
When the front facia was removed in my original writeup, I was just following GM instructions. The path to do the wiring was obscured by the facia, and having it off allows the wire to be placed where the original engineers desired it to be. You might want to describe an alternate path for those who want to do the installation without removing the facia.
Thanks for the heads up tech! It's going to be a hard decision, I also want to install the DDM diverter as well which will need the bumper removed as well. Decisions, decisions....
Then there's the added benefit of just seeing how it all looks, uncovered. This was my first turbo and seeing the intercooler and everything up close was a real treat.
Yea i was on a time crunch so I didnt want to remove the whole front. With the wheel and inner lining removed, the fog light spot was super easy to get to. Once I removed the lower panel I routed the 1 wire underneath the frame above the front fascia panel. I secured it with zip ties then follow somefactory wiring close to the side I was running to. Wires were secure and were clear of the radiator. Saved alot of time.
First off great right up, enough info with out putting too much info to make the average guy not want to read it haha.
Definatly made the decision for OEM fogs an obvious yes.
On a side note very excited to find out the Sonic's intercooler is front mounted, The Audi had them mounted in the fenders, Crappy for upgrading and a Pain the rear for any work on them.
Great write up! I was going to try this myself but the BCM flash killed it for me. Got the OEM fog laps from shopchevyparts.com for $192 and installed the other day by the dealer for $118. They look awesome! Will edit with a pic when I have time.
