Yep, gotta tell you I would have picked up that engine if I could have. It's frustrating to know that this stuff is out there and we can't get it here in what is obstensibly the home country of Chevy, not to mention the bailout of GM. I -paid- for the RnD on that thing, after all!

I wonder how much it would cost to buy the engine and have it shipped over here and installed in a local Sonic. And how much I could get on the black market for the transplant ready arm and leg of $ub$onic.

The Diesel is produced in Korea plant for the European Market Only. The only Chevy small vehicle getting a Diesel in the Chevy line is the Cruze and it is going to be launched very soon for North America!

The biggest reason is due to Emissions

All Sonics in North and South America are built in Lake Orion, Mi.

There is a 3rd plant set to open overseas next year.

I noticed in your photos that there is a plug in the rear bumper facia for a recovery tow hook. Is there one in the front too, and is the threaded eye/hook included with the vehicle?

I think it is not going to easy as the diesel is a low reving engine and the gearbox and diff ratio's will be different.

Yes there is a plug in the front bumper for towing (see photo below), and the tow eyebolt is included with the small tool kit at the spare wheel.

That is very impressive. 31.2% increase in power and 42,8% increase in torque.
What are the positives and negatives on this convertion and how did it effect you fuel consumption?

positive is the torgue by driving and pulling down the gaspedal
negative is that the gear and specialy the first gear is now short verry short you have to shift fast otherwhise you get the engine running in what they say overkil? dont now the exact word
fuel consumption is messerated in metric from
4.3 > 100 km avg
to 5.1 > 100 km avg
but it`s probely my right foot and the big smile and showing of to other drivers that a small chevy (can) beat them
.overall good investment and relative cheap 300€
rest of the car/engine is stil factory
this engine is most common in opel overhere and there is a huge aftermarket for that brand
