Ok. How about you can make a certain claims without any factual backup...

If you have any hard facts that aren't speculation in your part, provide the numbers, and let them prove your point.

Then, weigh them against the possible driver error that can occur with a person driving a manual, and lets hash that out with the goods/bads.

All too often I hear the rote learned idea that "manuals are better than autos". Maybe that's true in the hands of a pro driver.

There aren't many pro drivers, and just like a lot of people here think they can go fast, there are also a lot of folks who play ball in high school.... not many folks playing in the big leagues.

Most of the complaints I have with Auto revolve around the thing picking the wrong gear for the situation. If I want to go 90mph in third then that's what I want, I'll shift to fourth when I want to thanks. But it seems like they have most of the bugs worked out of "manual mode" now, and it's likely no more slushy than my own reflexes; I am seriously considering going auto for my next car.

I don't know about the top end, but it's pretty clear to me that auto would get me 0-60 much faster than I with my poor drivers reflexes will ever do it with my manual. And the auto seems like it will be able to hold the power of a Trifecta Red Pill tune, while I've had to replace my OEM clutch, and burned out the upgraded replacement and had to replace that with an even stronger one. This makes the auto a cheaper option, instead of a more expensive one!

I like automatic trans. With vehicles that have to much power for there own good. I find the auto is one less thing to worry about and keeps both hands on the wheel. But I do like manuals because there fun to drive.
In my diesel experience the manual was great and all but the auto was just so much better.

TCC stays locked. That allows the trans to run reduced main pressure and helps keep temps down on over driven autos. You might be thinking back to the old 700R-4/4L60E that wouldn't allow OD at WOT.

Well the last trans I worked on and one of the few ones I had to perform diagnostics ON (TCC wasn't disengaging around town) was from the same generation as the 4L60E so that is what I was basing my knowledge off of.

See here's the thing, if you're going to call someone out then provide the necessary "hard facts and numbers" to prove your point.

Other wise you look like the little brat telling everyone when they're wrong. When they are wrong you've bettered nothing and still have not disguised the fact that it is a sign of someone who is at the back end of the learning curve, just trying to make themselves look and feel smarter and more secure than they are.



I am not always right, I don't know everything. But I do know alot, some from auto tech schools, some from being an A.S.E BMW, & Chrysler certified tech, some from technical books and alot thru forums like this one.

It is dialogue like the one between OD3X1 and myself that builds knowledge, in this case I did the learning...... BUT so you don't forget it, I was right aswell just going off outdated "hard facts and numbers"

I'm alright with being wrong and actually enjoy when some like OB3X1 or Theenico or whoever comes along with the correct facts....... Because it furthers myself and others. There are many times I've done the same.......... You, I don't recall ever doing as much.

So yeah next time you call someone out why don't you put on your big boy pants and give the "hard facts and numbers" so that they may reach enlightenment.

No, I don't have to do this, because I am not the one making any type of claim. I am wearing my big boy pants. I'm not claiming to have some grand notion of how all this works. What I do know, is you make a really rather sh*tty argument. And what I am doing is trying to point out the problem. It's not because I'm trying to disprove you. I don't have any vested interest in scores you keep or your online ego or any of that. I could care less about all of that stuff. I just am searching for a clearly defined point and something to back it up.

Now don't get all hostile on me, I'm sure there are plenty if things about cars that you know about and probably a lot of them you know in and out, better than I. But I know a sh*tty argument, and somewhere some f*cktard is going to quote you on what you say here. If someone says the 2014 Sonic is gonna massage your ass while you drive, someone is gonna walk away thinking that is true. And I would just like to spare everyone the confusion, or the "no, go read post #X of thread Y" that is bound to happen 2 years from now.

You believe a manual will always have a higher top speed than a similarly equipped auto. It's a belief. That's all it is. I don't buy it, not without proof. I want to see the numbers that's all. Show them. I don't need proof to not believe you. I need proof to believe you. Convince me. Show me how much you are right. Or show me how much I am wrong. Prove it.*

Macehammer- despite appearances I am not being hostile, it is not that I dislike you........ It is my distaste in corrections with out any form of counter.

While I can understand you disagreeing with a post and requesting for some form of reputable/plausible backup; I trust you can also understand how that should not be neccesary until someone that KNOWS (or even suspects) a sourcable reason to counter. Furthermore I can comprehend your reflectance to immediately responding to a questionable post with loads if sources (because let's not forget using sources requires multiple reputable resources.)

In which case a dialogue of sources and reasoning would start. I trust you also understand that occasionally actual numbers backed data is unobtainable (top speed for a sonic of X config for example).
In this instance my limited reasoning was based off two once true but apparently outdated reasonings..... 1. Manuals have less power loss when crank HP is compared to wheel HP vs autos and 2. TCC lock up behavior.......... One of which I stated in my first "counter" if you will to Sub, which in my case was incorrect.


I believe you to be a logical individual.... While you aknowledge I have alot of knowledge, I also respect the fact that you have alot... I'm just saying that you giving just a tiny bit of it in a rebuttal would be valuable and Welcome!


Future reference- If you disagree with me, give me a reason why... At the very least I'll do some more research and at the least keep my mouth shut.

At the worst I'll get some sources and prove you wrong (another future reference, I take no pleasure in rubbing it in)

Hey, I'm a very speculative person. It's my nature. And I'm also very argumentative, which is well documented here and in other threads.

Most of my reasons for being this way. In this forum... is because in a lot of ways this forum, and all of the folks here pushing the limit on what they can do with our machines, are THE best resource that I have found on a wide variety of associated topics as they pertain to OUR machines.

So if I push you or others a bit to explain yourselves, put up proof, or even challenge your assumptions, it's not just for the sake of being a d*ck.

It makes the claims more true, the statements more specific, and the things that some might casually read then regurgitate a little more factual.

I promise I'm not being a d*ck for d*ckishness' sake...
