It's because they are incapable of objective thinking and using context.
For instance ask these friends how fast a Chevelle SS is......... Answer "oh It's so effing fast", reality is that all but the 454 ci options run the 1/4 mile at about the same speed as most of the more modded sonics (~14.5), Stratton was actually just behind the 454ss time of 13.7sec.
So your "slow" entry level, super mpg car is as fast as one of the hottest muscle cars of yesteryear........ Holes in your friends logic anyone?
Similarly your car can match or beat all of the latest dodge challengers except for 1 or 2 of the hottest engine packages........ Do they call a stock V8 charger slow? Probably not.
Yes of course the Sonics no rocket ship but it is impressive for what it is, well atleast once tuned.
I would really like to slap people that know cars and call a tuned/modded Sonic slow, not so much because its offensive, but because they are thinking out of context and densely while being rude. There are so many performance cars the sonic is faster than, if those aren't slow how can a tiny displacement car built for mpgs that runs the same time be slow?
