How to install steering wheel adapter

This is a step by step on how to install the steering wheel adapter.

NOTE/DISCLAIMER: This WILL remove the AIR BAG. This can be dangerous. Wearing a seat belt is always a good choice, but consider it mandatory with this mod.

With that out of the way lets start !

1) We must remove the steering wheel. Please follow this thread steps 1-5

2) Before removing the wheel, make sure it is centered and the wheel is straight. Then remove the wheel. You should see something like this.

note: I just cut the air bag wires off. I do not recommend this. *facepalm*

3) Plug in the supplied horn adapter.

4) Take the adapter and slid it on to the splines.
Note: May need to use some wd-40 to help it slide.



This is it fully slid on.

5) now you see this

Reapply the center bolt, loctite is not Necessary but would not hurt. I just snugged mine and it has been fine.

Last, install the wheel.

The wheel bolts do not need to be SUPER tight, this will strip out the holes. Get them good and snug. There are 6 bolts, it will not go anywhere.


Wheel recommendation:
350mm with a 2-3 inch dish is perfect for me.

Wheel in picture is a flat 320mm. Not recommended.

I believe wearing seat belts is the law everywhere, so it is indeed mandatory.

Wouldn't one possibly have insurance issues should one get into an accident and it is shown the driver airbag has been removed? I should think it means denied claim and the policy cancelled.

Yes, there is room behind the adapter. Witch is why I said I do no recommend it.

A) i do not intend on ever selling the car

B) the replacement part ( with cruse control connections ) is $40 not worried about it or I can reattach the wires. But I will more then likely replace the unit for safety reasons

Mandatory, sort of. A police officer cannot simply pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt. You would have had to get pulled over for something else first. Say you were speeding and upon pulling you over the officer noticed that you were not wearing your seatbelt - then, you're in trouble. That's how it works where I live anyway.

Thanks for the write up, $ub. I've had my eye on a few aftermaket steering wheels so this will just help out the process when and if I decide to move foward.

In Florida they can be sitting next to you at a stop light and ask you to pull over for no seatbelt.

New Florida law will allow cops to stop you for not wearing seat belt - Orlando Sentinel

Can you post a pic looking at the side showing the hub to column? Just did my install and I'm not very happy with the way it looks

It sticks out Alittle. But it needs to have clearance for the wires and ect underneath. It really bothered me a first but I don't even notice it now

yeah it really really bothers me I feel it should have came with a boot to cover the gap... Well anyways my dad thought it wasnt all the way on and hit it with a rubber hammer so needless to say I no longer have that piece behind it... it unplugs and unbolts with 4 little screws now I have even a larger gap and couldn't find a boot. I tried to make one out of a silicone coupler I had but think that looks like crap too :sadbanana:

Sow now I decided to mill the back down a little and powder coat it black. We will see how that goes but over all disappointed on how tacky it looked when installed correctly and mad at my dad cuz I told him not to mess with it

That's the clock spring and steering angle sensor. Your stability control will no longer work. It's $50 on amazon then a few more bucks to have the dealer recalibrate the sensor.

Don't blame you, I'm the only one who drives my car so not having a air bag does not bother me.

If my wife drove it I would have never go rid of it

yeah I found that out now the car torque steers a little and the little light is on but I'm ok with that. Is the piece behind the clock spring the steering angle sensor? No I will never stop noticing it every time I walk up to the car and see it i get annoyed on how it looks.

Ok, so don't buy it.
If it's correctly installed that will never happen. Not to mention that's a totally different set up.


This is a thread on how to install it. Not to complain about why you don't like it. If you don't like it DONT BUY IT!
