Brake pads are in, but after a very wet and muddy 2 hour ride I am having lots of issues. The brake levers are so sticky, they don't want to return to position. Still having some shifting issues, even though I washed out all mud and relubed carefully.

This is why I hate long, muddy, wet rides.

I have to figure out why my brakes are so mushy. If not, I have to take them in to be bled.

My atvs never had issues with brakes after wet muddy riding.
What's different?

They had hydraulic disc makes. Are yours hydraulic or cable?

So I have atv's.

If they are spongy. Could be bad calipers or air.

Could buy a vacuum bleader and do it yourself.

Mine are hydraulic. It isn't the wetness and mud by itself, but they made an existing issue worse. My model is known for sticky master cylinder pluger that gets worse when wet. It is a symptom of a swollen seal. That, and I had the bike upside down for a few days, which made an air bubble rise. I worked that out as well.

I got the rear working great now, but the front needs rebuilt. The master cylinder seal is swollen and it all needs redone. It has needed a rebuild for a year now, I will just get it done.

21 bucks for parts and 40 for labor. Should have the bike back by Saturday. The brakes went 6 years before a rebuild. Not bad, not bad at all.

Had my shifting issues fixed too. I sent an hour cleaning and lubing the rear detailer and now it is back to tip top shape.

So when new, they work pretty well.
How much was that bike? None of my bikes growing up had real brakes, only rubber pads that rubbed on the rims.

No, I don't have my ATVs anymore, sold them due to lack of time and money.

I agree 100%. Atv ing is a hobby, and not a needed item in life, I actually just sold one of mine. Was just giving a pointer.

I kinda miss them, but overall not really I think because I drive 500 miles a week now.

In order,

6 yrs old : 3HP minibike.
7 yrs old : 8HP DS80 dirt bike
8 yrs old : 9HP LT80 quad
10 yrs old or so, : Honda ATC-200X 3 wheeler.

I lost the 3 wheeler when I was 14 or so. Bought a Yamaha Raptor 350 when I was in my early 20s, wasn't happy with it and bought a modded used Raptor 660. I was happy with that.

Then times changed, bought a house, started driving far to work etc.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

We have a Polaris on the farm as a utility vehicle. Saves sooooo much time. It's been a couple years since we went trail riding though.

Dying is certain for us, but living is what's questionable. Buying a house is great and having a long commute to work is unavoidable. But buying a house in itself isn't living. I have learned that one can be financially responsible and yet live a life that's not boring and socially mundane. Social norms don't mean ****, because it isn't the society's happiness that one's after, but their own.

Do what makes you happy and have no regrets.

I know, you refuse to admit having a house is necessary.
However to me, having as much space between me and others is very important. I need some personal space and an apartment complex doesn't provide that.

Hell, what I really want is a place like Scot has out in the middle of no where. Only instead of a modern log style home, I'd prefer an old large Victorian, but, the log home is fine too.

Yes, that would be ideal. And no, having a house for the sake of having a house is certainly not necessary. If you have a family - perhaps. Just for me - no.

That's what tears me up, too. For many years I've done a 70 mile round trip commute to work (against rush hour, luckily) and it took a lot of time, which I would have happily used for other things that I care about more than commuting.

Since I've gone down to a <10 mile round trip commute, it is hard to give that up, very hard. But I would consider commuting longer again if I were to live in bufu somewhere, where I could have enough land to not be bothered if I chose to.

I got fed up with it after 4.5 years. I don't even want to think of how much time I wasted driving to work and back. The time you gain by having a short commute is immense when you think of it over a week's time, even.

Ironically I have more in aftermarket parts on the sonic then I bought my trailer for.

Cheap living.

Would do it again. I have deer all around, a pesky raccoon and the occasional bear. It's great.
