What am I allowed to have?

I need to take my car in to the dealer so they can look at it. I keep losing boost. So my question is what can I have without voiding warrenty. I have 2nd cat delete and a cold air intake will either cause them to void the warrenty?

Since both, your intake and exhaust should help increase boost, they shouldn't blame either. But technically, the turbo is part of both systems that you modified so if they wanted they could say the waranty is void. It's a grey area. Just depends if they want to be *#+%'s about it.

They will have to prove that the parts caused the issue to voids the warranty. If they suspect the parts could be the issue they should just ask you to return it to stock and that might not be a bad idea to solve one potential problem before even letting them trouble shoot your car.

And to add to it, I would just put the stock intake back in, the unmonitored second cat shouldn't have any adverse effects on the car or building and holding boost.

Increasing boost suggests increasing stress on the turbo, in my eyes that means the mods could be blamed.

Also, assume the dealer is an emissions testing facility as most are in NJ, wouldn't they be required by law to report the modifications such as the cat delete? I had a friend that did emissions testing in NJ and he wouldn't go near such a thing due to the fines and possibility of losing his license.

They might poo-poo the intake. Cause it interferes with MAF readings. But the exhaust mods shouldn't matter as long as the emission systems are still in place.

Just hope they don't report to GM before they decide to fix or deny. If they don't report just remove all and send it to tom bell in Redlands

Do you guys deny based solely on flash count?

Last time I went in for an oil change they were giving me a hard time because I hard piped the stock intake. He said anything that touches the turbo "could" cause a warranty void.

Seemed like overkill just going in for an oil change, but at least it was a heads up. I don't think they checked anything since he told me "I just wanted to give you a heads up..."

I like leasing since if any issues come up and you don't have a warranty, once you turn it in you no longer have to worry about it.

I am tuned with Trifecta and VTuner...so I know my flash count is not going to be at 1.

Just curious as to what others have experienced.

I have trifecta and have flashed prob 4 times in the past three weeks. car goes back to the shop this week so I assume they are checking ecu tunes

Well I should clarify - I have both tunes, and I only use one at a time. It is nice to have the variety.

VTuner is really smooth and almost exactly like stock until you push the car harder.

Trifecta seems to hit harder down low and has a nice midrange kick to it.

The main thing I like about Vtuner is how smooth you can take off. With Trifecta the throttle is more sensitive, even though I have had Vince soften it 3 or 4 times for me.

PID's were 187 and 190 for torque with each tune on a data log so they are close in overall output.

On reflashing the firmware for a custom tune, will dealerships look as dimly upon an economy-oriented flash as they presumably would a performance-oriented one?

Chevy maintains it can not tell the difference, it can only tell a change has occured. I do not believe it looks for tunes in four cylinder cars. I know it automatically looks for tunes in V8 Camaros, V8 trucks, and all Corvettes.

My point: they are not currently looking as a matter of protocol although individual dealers may for their own reasons AND a ecu flash only affects your engine/powertrain warranty. I have yet to have a warranty claim denied due to a mod I did but I have not asked for a warranty repair for something I did.

Basically if you bring your car in with a power train failure.The first question GM will ask me is ! (Does the car appear modified in any way) If i say yes Than it goes from there ! Check for flash counts or they may want to see the programing.Really unless you ask for it showing up with mods done.Or its repeat failures.They are not going to screw you.
