Been a while since I got chatty here.
Our son is now 6 weeks old. Words cannot explain how amazing the experience is, so I won't even try.
It's become unavoidable that we will need a larger Chevy to accommodate the baby and dog. I won't go the mini-van route, so instead we've got our sights on the Equinox. Now that my Sonic loan is finished and work has been very lucrative, saving for the Equinox is going great...... I'd like to buy a used 2012+ with less than 60k miles for ~$16k. Going to buy it in full and I'm about halfway to fully funded.
Anybody have any experience with Equinoxes? I'd love to hear some feedback.

My mom loves her Equinox. Personally, I'd aim for a Trax but to each their own.
So far, my son is 6 months old and I'm not giving up the Sonic. Even when it means riding in the passenger seat with my knees jammed in my chest.

I'm never buying a brand new vehicle again. Has nothing to do with the Sonic specifically. I love it and have no regrets. But the $5k that evaporates on the 1st day is not worth the new car smell. Plus I am a well capable mechanic.

4cyl? 6cyl? FWD? AWD?
I'm set on 2.4 4cyl FWD. Don't need the MPG loss of AWD, because NorCal.
We do want "leather" seats. Our dog has short white hair.

I've had an assortment.
I had a loaner one for over a week, which was a 4 cylinder fwd while my Sonic was getting warranty work done some time ago.
I really liked the room for my dog (I have a Lab) and I enjoyed how it drove overall. I do remember the engine sounding somewhat thrashy, but I don't recall it feeling underpowered.
I also remember enjoying the upper level trim much more. Basic loaner spec was ok, but it felt a little lacking, even compared to my LT interior in the Sonic.

The one my mom has is a 4 cyl AWD.
My dad was pushing for the 6 cyl but he caved and went with the 4. Last I heard, they had no regrets and it has plenty of power.
Also, last I checked the 4 cyl had electric power steering, but the V6 had hydraulic.
Not sure how that makes sense, but it is what it is.

Financially, it's the most responsible thing to do. The sweet spot is to purchase a vehicle between 1-2 years of the in-service date. You'll still have a good amount of B2B warranty left, a whole lot of powertrain warranty left, residual new car smell
, and $1000's left in your savings. Case in point, a 7 grand savings on my showroom condition LTZ with 3,500 miles and 26 months B2B warranty purchased used.The small subcompact car segment seems to be very dynamic with ownership lifecycles. Life events and discretionary budgets are ever changing with folks and it effects resale values and residuals more often then (let's say) with your full size Buick. People just seem to hold on to the latter longer! That, in it of itself, makes these Chevy's a perfect late model purchase. :banana:

My friend has an equinox, I mentioned it before to you. I think he's at about 60k miles and has had tons of issues. It's a 4 fwd. not that it's the norm just worth mentioning.
