P0597 Trouble Code - Cheap Replacement?

I'm getting an intermittent check engine light and the local Pepboys scanner says it's P0597. Has anyone tried one of these replacement Thermostat Housing Assemblies?

They look just like the dorman replacement, and the feedback on that part number alone has been all positive.

I know an autozone part is only like $65 but is this one worked, i'd rather try it.

No ..but for 15 bucks give it a try and let us know.. Worst case you have to drain the coolant and replace it again?

I was sort of thinking the same thing. I should have emailed the guy on ebay first asking if he just bought a ton of them, etc.

It's not an overly hard job. The star bolts on the oem thermostat worry me a little, I'm not sure how to remove those. But otherwise it shouldn't take more than a couple hours with bleeding the system, I just don't want to do it twice. Ha.

Screw it. To save $50 it's probably worth a shot. I just don't want it to not open and have the damn car overheat. ��

Does my car have a temperature warning light!? It would be in the tach cluster, right?

Yes, there should be a temp warning light. Also, youll probly need either a E8 star sock or E10 star sock.

well the job is done, and besides breaking off one of the stupid star bolts and having to vise grip it for days to get it out, it went well.

The car took quite a while to purge the air out (I couldn't find a purge valve on the radiator). All seems to be going okay, it's been 3-4 days, and it was cold this morning and the check engine light hasn't come back on(knock on wood).

Needless to say, I replaced all the star bolts with regular stainless hex head, and replaced all the ones on the engine cover as well, because, well, I now officially hate those star headed bolts.
