E85?

So I was thinking of getting a tuner in a few months and my question is on running e85. I can get e85 for $1.40 a gal where I live. So the question is who here is running an e85 tune and what do you need for it. Im assuming you'll need the Bosch 42lb injectors. Im also looking to get a tuner that I can switch between 85 and normal gas. Any suggestions will be great!

If your car is not designated as flex fuel, BNR sells a flex fuel kit, and BNR is hands down the best tuning service around. With a tune and the kit, you can run any mixture of E85 and pump gas as it will automatically scale itself. It seems like a P. I. T. A. to have to run your gas out and then find e85...... 42lb green giants are $200 for the set on ZZP. $225 on BNR, but to me the extra $25 was worth it to get them in a timely manner.

Do it! I've been on the corn all semester and the difference is notable, and there's something wrong with my car. I'm getting around 10 lbs of boost and on the corn I can beat an RS with probably no mods, in my LT. If you're looking for a tune I recommend BNR. I've been tuned for over a year and I'm still loving it.

As long as you aren't wanting to use E-85 for the price of the fuel; and are actually doing this for performance gains. An engine tuned properly for alcohol uses copious amounts of fuel relative to 100% gasoline. An alcohol burner also doesn't usually like cold ambient temperatures.

So by what you are saying...my sonic is not a "flex-fuel" vehicle, however if I wanted to try corn juice before going all in on a flex-fuel kit, I could just get the injectors and a BNR tune? As long as I put e85 in an empty tank and make sure my sonic is running the e85 tune?

Also - how difficult is it to install the injectors and the flex-fuel kit?

I'm assuming you have a 1.4. The 1.4 is not a flex fuel vehicle, though it can be converted to be one. If you have a BNR tune you're going to need to buy 42# injectors, the install of the injectors is simple. Literally just relieving fuel pressure, disconnecting the fuel hose, removing I think one bolt, maybe a nut, pushing the clips in to pop off the electrical connectors, pulling the fuel rail up, and sliding some metal clips off. The install of the injectors takes about 5 minutes honestly, 30 if you're careful and it's your first time.

To try some corn you're going to have to email Jerry and tell him you want to run some corn, then he'll take care of the rest, the problem with that is that you're supposed to completely drain the tank before you go from gasoline to E"85." Also the "85" part, around here I think the highest ethanol content I've seen is around 60%.

The flex fuel sensor though is a little more involved, but even that is still really easy.

If it helps, there's something wrong with my car, and I'm still winning some races on E85 with like 10 lbs of boost tops.
