Gimpster, not sure if you are crazy or not
, but it looks like most car manufacturers disagree with you. Most have systems to reuse the oil to minimize oil consumption. The oil that you recover is mist that was squeezed out from tight clearance parts or sloshed up by the crank whipping around. You are right that piston ring blow-by has traces of unburnt fuel and water vapor. The main difference is the water and fuel are evaporated into a gas mixed with the air, the oil is in tiny atomized droplets of LIQUID oil suspended in the air. So when the engine and AOS system are up to operating temp, a properly designed AOS will collect the oil mist into drops and the water and fuel vapor will go right thru the AOS to get reingested into the intake.

Remember that manufactorers are beholden to emissions laws, thus why they're recirculated into the engine in the first place. Not to mention they can't use vented catch systems etc. If you took a time machine back a few decades you'd see every car had a "road tube" that literally just blew crank case emissions to the ground. In fact, my 2001 Dodge Ram does this... and they did until 2004 I think (heavy trucks were exempt from a lot of stuff until not long ago).
Either way pull the intake off any car thats been on the road a long time, and how it SHOULD be and how it REALLY looks are two different things.

Gimpster, looks like we are talking about different things. My note was about sending the oil from the AOS back into the engine. Sounds like you are talking about where the air goes after oil mist is separated out
On your Cummins deisel, does it have a vent tube running down to the ground? Or is the vent unit sitting on top of the valve cover? If it vents inside, your vent must have some kind of filter or metal mesh to captures the oil mist so it can drain back into the engine, otherwise you would have oil mist coating the entire inside of the engine compartment...

No I think we're talking about the same thing? I'm saying I want zero of the oil that comes out of the breater captured in the AOS back into my engine. If the engine didn't want it, I don't want it.
And CORRECT, the Cummins is coated in oil (along with the rest of the undercarriage) just like cars of olden days. The tube comes out of the front of the cam chain case, heads straight down to a bottle thats SUPPOSED to capture the mist. It doesn't go back into the engine, you're supposed to clean it out now/then. However it of course doesnt capture a darn thing and just blasts the engine, radiator and undercarriage with nasty stuff. On the plus side, I know my floor boards won't rust

Thank goodness all the cars on the road don't puke out oil like that, we wouldn't be able to breathe These new fangled PCV systems are new technology, cars have only had them since the mid 60's Do these systems sometimes fail when they get old, sure, but I don't think that means they should all be removed...
I wrote in an earlier post that oil from a "properly designed" AOS which operates at warm temperature, will collect only the atomized liquid oil droplets and let the water and fuel vapor pass right thru with the air flow. For water to condense out, it has to have a cool surface. The oil, which is not contaminated with water or fuel can flow back to the oil pan. Many cars do it, no problem...
Your down tube with bottle is not the same thing. The bottle is cool, so of course water and fuel vapors will condense out and contaminate the oil. I would not re-use that oil either!

An oil catch can is definitely needed on a direct injection engine.
Using one on a non direct engine is only needed for show.

Direct Injections engines put fuel directly in the cylinders, port injected engines spray the fuel at/on/around the intake valve so the oil vapor is washed into the cylinders and burned. This does not happen with direct injected engines so the oil build up causes deposits on the intake valve and manifold and start to gum up over time.

Ok first off any car with an active Pcv is going to gum up as you say. In theory a turbo car will befor a na car. The vacum created by the intake is just suckin the life out of the block like my last girlfriend. The less than two inch span of where the fuel come in makes no diferance. Any motor with a Pcv is going to get oil deposits in it with out a catch can. I have had more motors in prices than I've seen boobs and at two a set that's alot.
