If Dart isn't out in a year or so, it might be time for a WRX/STi :O. I just really want alot more power. Sonic was a mistake in buying the 1.8.

So you're willing to spend 30k+ on another car (I'm being modest, I'm pretty sure the sti is 40k after taxes/options/fees), but not 3500 on a turbo?
Lol just teasing, but if all you wanted was hp, the sonic in general, regardless of the engine, probably shouldn't have been the car to buy in the first place

Both the 1.8 and 1.4 are peppy engines and in my book they are best in class for subcompacts. keep in mind this is a entry level car that was built to sell for the general public for cheap . I've owned much faster cars in the past but the sonic keep impressing me and it gets the job done and returns awesome fuel economy . You can't compare the sonic to much else but it is definitely the best car for the money In it class .

I agree, The sonic and the WRX/STI are in two different categories... Especially if you plan on using it mainly for racing. (+ the huge difference in prices
) Also from what others have pointed out in the forums, is that there are still Aftermarket items, not created for this car. Imagine how amazing the Sonic will be after you can pretty much change it from Stock to.... (Using Imagination)Off topic... I don't see any youtube videos of Sonic's racing other cars. I'm disappointed...

I'd give a couple years and the aftermarket will be huge . Just like the cobalt,g5 and j body platforms

i think we're all a little bit hesitant to void our warranty lol.
a turbo setup on a naturally aspirated engine is less complicated than you might think. as long as the engine can handle the increased air and fuel demands, and you dont add too much boost, it should be fine. the 1.8 only has 138 hp so adding even just a bit of boost should make it a monster.
i dont have 3500 bones but i would absolutely consider it. it is a lot to spend making a vehicle that wasnt designed to be a speed demon fast. whoever buys it though will have the fastest sonic on the road for a while.
i still think there will be a mad rush when warranties start expiring

There is no way I would give my car up for R&D just to save $400 on a kit. That is foolishness. It's a lot more than fabing brackets and fitment issues and so on. They still have to develop a tune for it and Perfect it. Also what about longevity of the kit? Are there going to be hours of documented track time testing it? Is the tune included with the kit? Questions go on and on.
Forced induction on a 1.8l is gobs of fun at 7psi....trust me.. I spent about $7k doing the same a few months ago. That was on a proven track raced kit with software, injectors, intake.... You get the picture. I would not risk my car. I have seen others go this route of being a donor and come out with blown motors and left holding the bag ( tho I can't comment on the shop you are discussing, as I don't know the agreement) Just a warning!
I would wait for a proven kit but you have to start somewhere, a lot of shops do R&D with their own cars. But if someone wants to offer up theirs....why not!.

Higher SCR will surely increase gains in a boosted application, how couldn't it
Only draw back is you will be Octane dependent (i.e. Will need higher octane to run more boost and timing to prevent pre detonation)
On E-85 life would be good :banana:
