  • I have a 2013 sedan 1.8 gas sonic. Lately its's developed a sporadic, but regular miss at idle. I have replaced the plugs, the coil ignition springs and boots. I cleaned the throttle body thoroughly with the MAF sensor. I changed the MAP sensor, and threw in a new battery just for good measure. STILL MISSING! I replaced the timing belt at 90K just to be on the safe side. This is my Baby and its like she's dying of some unknown cancer. Something tells me St. Judes would laugh at me if I tried them. And the dealer would probably spend hours racking up a bill that will ultimately be a fortune for a trivial part. (yes it happened when I tried to get the advertised mileage from them, and it turned out to be a hole in the intake tube that was on a recall but only if you complained loud enough) Is there any chance for me to resurrect my vehicle from the ominous death it's hurtling towards? Hello Chevy CC,

I have a 2013 Sonic Lt Hatch 1.8L that I've change the fuel pump, valve cover, purge vale, and ignition coil. Dealer wont give me straight answer, telling me they have to keep diagnosing.

I am getting a P0304. There is still def a misfire with check engine light on.
Could it be I purchased a bad ignition coil? what could be causing this?

This car did not make it thru the life of the loan! This is not good. at 101,000 GM should at least diagnose this for free instead of me paying $150 a third time!

    Please help.
My mechanic had to replace my valve cover and PCV valve with vent hose assembly after 3 trouble codes appeared. I could not drive my car to the nearest dealership due to the condition it was in. The nearest dealership is quite far and requires driving onto a state highway to get there. I have 76,834 mi. and I was wondering if this service is covered under the powertrain warranty. I've asked a similar question in the past, but you never replied.

Hello. Can you please help me? I own a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic, and the car is making a popping/clunking sound when going over bumps or a bumpy road. I don't notice it during turns, just driving. Similar to this thread: http://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/handling-braking-suspension-discussion/19721-clunking-popping-noises-coming-front-drivers-side.html

My closest dealership is Capitol Chevrolet on Capitol Expressway in San Jose.

I own an extended warranty. My VIN is 1G1JC6SH3G4138080.
Can you please verify that there will be no charge, since I own an extended warranty?

    Thank you,
    Mark Albiar

I'm going to try to get it done under warranty but I suspect my dealer will give me a hard time, because of how much labor is required.

any idea if this is still being repaired? my mileage is past the warranty period.
    Hello,

I had a 2013 LTZ 1.4 5DR for 4 years and I loved the car. I decided it was time to pick out a new one and bought a 2018 LT 1.4 5DR. I have 1 issue that is driving me nuts with this new car. I used a thumb drive in the 2013 for 4 years without issues. I have a lot of music on this 8GB drive. When I put it in the 2018, you can see the playlists, albums, songs, but none of them will play. The dealer did a update to the radio, but it didn't solve the problem. At this point I am very frustrated and completely dissatisfied with this issue. The dealer is bending over backwards to try and help, but they can't get any answers from techline. The thumb drive works in any other 2018 product Chevrolet has. It also works in a 2017 Sonic with the same equipment. The radio did change for 2018. Why am I having this issue and is there a fix?
    Hello

I have a 2012 Sonic LTZ hatch 6 speed manual with about 48k but just a few months out of factory power-train warranty, now I am experiencing what apparently is a common issue with the transmission output shaft bearing making a whine noise. The transmission was apparently redesigned for 2013 + vehicles.

I really like the little Sonic but this is a big problem. Can GM help with what appears to be a defect in the transmission? I'm in zip code 97007.
Passenger airbag light shows off with normal sized adult in seat.

I see that your PM box is full, so trying here ...

I am wondering if Chevy has found a fix for this? It has shown up on multiple model years and has lots of comments on this board.

I have a 2016 Sonic HB auto, 1.8 ltr with the same problem. The condition is intermittent. My wife who is an average sized person is the one who normally sits in the passenger seat. We do not use any sort of seatcovers.

I have taken it to my Chevrolet dealer and they could not find any faults. I have no doubt that they tried, but they may not have the same depth of knowledge that Detroit has.

My vehicle has about 22K miles but the problem has been present for the entire time I have owned it.
Hello! My name is Tom Lorbeer and I have a 2012 Chevy Sonic LTZ Hatchback 1.4L w/6spd manual transmission. I recently installed a water temperature gauge and wanted to know at what temperature does the coolant have to reach (50/50 mix with DexCool) to activate the overheating coolant light? I've asked a couple of GM mechanics and they told me their service manuals don't say. I'd like to know because I don't know at what temperature the car is considered too hot. I know the thermostat opens at 221F and it is fully opened at 248F. It is also electric assist or MAP. Is there any way you could find out the answer to my question and get back to me? Thanks!

    Hello,

I'm having a vibrating/rattling issue from the dashboard area near the glove box windshield pillar (I think) and it tends to happen after cornering and accelerating to around 45 MPH.

the valve cover and coil pack went bad on my 2014 sonic and my mechanic said that neither were covered under my warranty. My mechanic said that the valve cover problem is a known problem according to GM. The car had just over 50,000 miles on it when it was repaired. Was my mechanic correct that these items could not be covered under warranty? VIN 1G1JF5SBXE4139897
Hello I have a 2013 sonic my turbo just went out. I took it to the dealership they are replacing to turbo under warranty. What is bothering me is they said the oil supply line had over heated and stopped up with oil which keyed the turbo from getting oil. I asked them how to keep that from happening, they said change the oil every 3000miles instead of 5000miles. That's not a very good answer to me, I'm worried that this will happen again.
I have a 2017 Chevy Sonic. Today the radio stayed locked onto a phone call that was never made. Later in the day the door locks kept locking and unlocking, lights keep going on and off. Door locks would also act like they were cycling to lock and unlock. Only 1600 miles on the car and the problems seem to be getting worse. Is there a known issue?
    Hello

I was contacted regarding broken seat heater on my 2012 Sonic LTZ. I understand from reading on-line that its not an uncommon problem. My vehicle is not under warranty anymore, but its not even 40k miles yet. We love the car, but my wife does love heaters and this is causing some angst with her.

If you have a plan to correct this problem, please let me know.

Also, the ignition seems iffy as the "key in alarm" when you go get out doesn't work, but it does work if I wiggle the key. Athough it wasn't subject of recall on my car as I understand it, the GM ignition problems make me wonder if the car is safe to drive and if the ignition mechanism is failing.

    Thanks,

    Scott AKA Dirkdaddy
Hi there. I have an exhaust leak before my cat and was quoted $600 to repair from my local dealer. It's a 2013 with 61k miles on it. I read this quote from you on a thread and believe my repair would be covered...

"Under normal circumstances the following should be covered under the Emissions and Powertrain Warranties. ....

    Federal Emissions Warranty:

    •.........
    • Catalytic converter system.
    • Sealing devices and mounting hardware.
    • Exhaust system up to the catalytic converter.
    • .........
    • Emission related hoses, clamps, belts, pulleys, tubes, fittings and wiring harness used on the above components
    ..........(continuted) "
I bought a 2012 Sonic LT, and can connect my phone via Bluetooth with no issue, but cannot find an option for music streaming. Are there different versions of the same radio?

Is there anything you can do for me? Car has about 50K miles, was under pre-owned certified warranty but that expired. I originally brought it in during the warranty for the noise but the tech was unable to identify, then it got worse, and then they replaced the end links recently. Is this part of the Chevy customer satisfaction policy for the service campaign? VIN is 1g1jc5sh2c4177828. The service manager was not there when I had the vehicle repaired so I could not address it with him directly. Thank you.
I saw your comment to PlayCrackTheSky regarding a broken cruise control switch. I went out to my car yesterday morning to discover that my cruise control switch had broken the same way that his was and you told him to PM you with his information. My VIN number is 1G1JD6SH3D4135043 and my current mileage is 43,765. I bought the car last summer with around 31,000 miles. I have a pic of the broken switch in my profile and I can send that to you as well if that would help. I have taken the car to the Northpoint Chevrolet location but am open to any dealer that can take care of this. Thank you!
