1-2 shift grinding status

Mine's starting to have a slight grind when I do a first to second shift now under regular acceleration... I'll just keep monitoring it and see if it gets worse...

The grind is very slight, but you can feel and hear it. It almost feels like the clutch is only engaging 90% of the way or so.

You all can add mine to the list. I love the car...but I do wish Chevy fixes this...I've been a Honda guy since 1990 and this is the first non-Honda/Acura I've owned since then. If they do right by the owners and fix it I will buy from them again....if they don't my family and I will NEVER buy a car from them again. Lets see if they are concerned about the short term profits or long term sustainability of their company...actions will determine....

I would not argue that there is a difference in the shift ability of this car. BUT one thing that I realized is that a long time ago we had to wring out 4 cylinders to get the power usually in the 6000 rpm area. This engine produces the best power in the 4000 rpm range. Now a " tuned" engine may be different but I have started shifting at 4500 to 5000 and it pulls harder on the boost. May be a solution for some of you.

The factory tach is slow and the engine may already be at 6K even though the tach says different.

However I also find if I shift without looking I end up right around 5000-5500 according to the factory tach which is all I have.

I am not surprised the factory tach is slow or off, factory gauges have never been state of the art

1987 Buick GNX came with Stewart Warner gauges from the factory.

Anyone ever investigated clutch cable stretch?

Not sure if is applicable, but cables do stretch which would reduce clutch engagement.
Guess I will have a look at the system tonight to see if it is cable or hydraulic activated.

I've never seen any sign that my clutch doesn't fully disengage. Simply stepping on the clutch with it in neutral and trying to go into a gear after 5 seconds should show that. Though a synchronized trans won't grind you'll still feel a slight tug on the car. If I wait 5-10 seconds I feel absolutely nothing.

I had this issue when I first bought the car, had the local dealer do a TSB and I haven't had any grinding since. In fact, I can't remember the last time I had any shifting problems. It may just be that over time my mind grew accustomed to the way this car drives and I just don't know it.

I don't think I can buy enough cars in my life to go through all the brands. If so I guess I'll just make my own!

The shifting issue is not my problem with GM. Problems are abundant in all vehicles. It's their failure to address the issue that is my problem with GM. It is my hope another brand would fix an issue like this.

If you want some of the best customer service and warranty you can find, buy a Jeep. They are amazing. That said, I have no use for a Jeep and the gas mileage isn't what I'm looking for.

For what I wanted, Chevy has the best car and warranty.

I learned to drive a stick with a Jeep! I loved it. That 4 litre straight-6 is one of the best engines ever made. I could get ~21 mpg if I went 55. Of course, that's too dang slow. ~17 mpg it was.

Exactly the same for me, I had a 2000 jeep wrangler 5 speed with 4.0l

No offense but as an owner of Jeep Grand Cherokee since new, previous owner of 4 other Chrysler products, I think you are uninformed. Nothing personal but Chrysler would be my last choice.
Having said all that, the real issue you have is with your dealer. What has been the response. I have not seen anything on this forum that leads me to believe GM is "ignoring" the "problem". Truthfully we all need more information to determine what is going on. Seems as if it is a synchro issue.
