The problem is the majority of people that own the sonic are not looking/thinking about doing aftermarket modifications

untill they come to this site.... I had no intentions of doing much of anything.. Now I think i need to just get my boss to write my checks to ddmworks... lol

Does this shield actually increase the heat on the turbo?

Hopefully, but not likely.

I've considered wrapping mine in a Turbo Blanket. I could have an insulator at work make me one out of high-tech turbine insulation. Hotter turbo means bigger expansion from exhaust gas, means faster spool.

I wonder if the the oil lube/water cooling could keep up with a hotter turbo?

I would think so. And you bring up a good point if anything else tune for 190-200 and that should help that and also use a good thermally stable oil like rp and Mobil

Does this shield actually increase the heat on the turbo?

We have been doing some engine bay testing with the prototype shield in place and see no change in coolant temps, FYI.

I also used our temp probes in the engine bay and there is a decrease in temps above the shield and over by the intake.

It looks like it is keeping some more heat in the turbine housing, which will result in faster spool and the potential for a little power, although probably not much. Once the production pieces come in that are made from stainless steel I will do some more testing, since aluminum does not do much as a heatshield.
